Star Wars: The Clone Wars S4

Something tells me this isn't going to happen until the 22nd episode... kinda like how Season Two was about Boba Fett but he didn't appear until the last two.

I can't remember if we speculated that bringing Savage Opress into the series last season would eventually lead to Darth Maul returning. Interesting to see how they'll use him.

I don't know if people did discuss that. I saw the introduction of Opress as a way of sort of admitting that GL dropped the ball with Maul and since they 'couldn't' resurrect him they would give the fans his brother. But I guess I was wrong to some extent, since they have used the Opress story to actually bring Maul back.

Well, we saw Darth Maul's face in the witch queen's crystal ball didn't we? The only question I had at that point was whether he existed on the material plane.

But since I've been here, we have speculated that only the good side of the Force leads to eternal life, and in incorporeal form only.

I'd totally buy that the dark side doesn't offer this ability, which would be consistent with Darth Plagueis's, Palpatine's, and Anakin's obsession with corporeal immortality alone.

If you buy all this, then only physical resurrection can explain Maul's face in the crystal ball. Not to mention, didn't the witch queen say that Opress must go out to find him, or words to that effect, something that would not be necessary if he were incorporeal?

I'm not really thrilled with the whole Darth Maul returning thing. There has to be some kind of a catch. Otherwise...

Lucas once again undercuts his own story. If Maul can survive, how come Palpatine and Dooku can't? It's a whole bag of worms there and seems to lend credibility to the clone Palpatine nonsense from Dark Empire.

Also, I think it hurts Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan became a Jedi because he slayed Maul. He slayed Maul and and Anakin slayed Dooku, putting them on equal footing for there duel. But no, Obi-Wan couldn't even kill a Sith if he cut him in half? How does that not make him look weak as hell? I can imagine they want an Anakin/Maul confrontation but if Maul is truly coming back, than Obi-Wan HAS to be the one to kill him. Let Anakin kill Saavage.

Is that what Darth Plagueis achieved, according to the EU?

No, that post seemed to refer to the "Sith spirits" that were prevalent in pre-PT EU. Plagueis did not become one of these as far as we know.

According to the books Dark Lord and Death Star, Plagueis did not achieve the ability to "cheat death" or "preserve the immortal ego". In Dark Lord this power is differentiated from a lesser ability to save other beings who are dying ( a type of dark side Force heal ), an ability which the Sith of the Banite line did seem to have. As stated in ROTS, Plagueis could save others from death, but not himself. In the books Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and Dynasty of Evil, it was made clear that the "essence transfer" ability as seen in the Dark Empire series is the power to "cheat death" as far as the recent EU is concerned.

^ Thanks for the clarification.

Tonight's Clone Wars episode was the first one I've enjoyed this season. I actually liked it quite a lot for a TCW episode.

^ Do you even watch it?

I caught the end of the episode and thought it was pretty good. Keep forgetting to go back and catch up.

I enjoyed having an episode starring the droids but I would have done a single episode and not a two parter; I was terrified it would be a trilogy but then they abruptly wrapped it up in the end.

The opening sequence of the episode was brilliant though, a CIS attack on a Republic cruiser from the droids' POV, just like the opening of New Hope. I loved seeing Grevious dueling a Jedi just in the background as they run by.

Finally with droid episodes finished now comes the Umabara arc.

I am looking forward to it because:

Umbara, relativly unknown planet with rarely used species.

Four armed jedi wielding lightsabers, something i always wanted to see.

^ We kind of have already seen that though with General Greivious...but yeah it would be kind of cool to see a multi-limbed Jedi do that.

It's no wonder 3PO hates space travel....

I enjoyed the heck out of this episode. Unlike last weeks droid adventure, this one was actually funny, fast-paced, and even kind of exciting at times (the space and air battles were beautifully done). Of course it probably helps that I actually CARE what happens to R2 and 3PO, unlike all the boring ass prequel characters.

And I have to admit I found it strangely... moving to see R2 slowly lose power like that. It's something we've never seen happen before, and almost felt like watching him die for a minute there.

I thought last night's episode was just okay. It was a little too convenient how the droids got out of trouble all that time, but I guess that was supposed to be part of whismicalness (sp). But I can't be too hard a judge, it's always great to see more CP30 and R2. With them, Jar Jar was totally unnecessary in the prequels.

I did enjoy seeing Adi Gallia, but I wondered why Grevious didn't kill her (glad he didn't) and how she escaped from him. I wish they had shown that instead of just showing her running up with her lightsaber and troopers.

This episode was a nice tip of the hat to the Droids animated series where the 2 fell into one crazy adventure after another, plus it really pointed out the close friendship the 2 have, heck this may have been the beginning of it I don't think we seen them spend this much time on their own before.
