What Set Was Missing Fron TOS?

KirksStuntMan

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
TOS had a number of impressive Matt Jefferies' sets: the bridge, sick bay, engineering, the transporter room, etc.

What other interesting Enterprise set do you think should have been designed, built, and used in the production, and what would its function be?

Okay, I'll start...

Voyager had a movie theater. The cage seemed to have a tennis court as those two scantily clad teenagers had raquets I think. Pike had a t.v., Didn't he, with the Captains hat on it. I think it was a Dumont boob tube. The Doctor had a portable bar. TOS had a make shift church I think. What they needed was a psychiatrist wall to make sure they weren't all hallucinating. They also had a gymn and a weight room and twelve science labs, and that place Kirk took Karidian's daughter - an arberitum observatory lounge? I'm sure they had a steam room besides the main engineering.

How about Spock having his own damn Science area!

Okay, no science officer has ever had their own section, but it might have been cool to have Spock go down to a place with big computers and libraries and such.

Think of it like The Bat Cave!

I don't trust Spock as it is looking so much like a Romulan, how can you trust him with his own science lab. I'm talking seven of nine meglamania here. Astrometrics was too much for her. He would get seduced by who knows what and create a holographic planet where Kirk and Uhura would be adam and eve and he would be Satin. Then what?

I actually think they did a good job of showing us almost everything. Off the top of my head, every thing that "should" be there was featured in one episode or another. Maybe an office for McCoy?

Good idea. Not just for Spock, but the whole sciences department -- a section with lots of blue-shirted crewpeople working in labs and such.

How about a ready room for Kirk?

Maybe an office for McCoy?

McCoy was the only character who did have an office. It's the part of the sickbay set between the exam room and the lab. It's the second room from the left in this diagram:

Why in the world would Spock want to become a fabric?

:p

It would probably have been way beyond budget, but I always wanted to see the shuttlecraft maintenance bays one level below the “hangar deck” (which should have been called the “flight operations deck”).

TOS had a make shift church I think.
The ship’s chapel, a redress of the transporter room, was shown at the beginning and end of “Balance of Terror.” I don’t recall seeing it in any other TOS episode.

What they needed was a psychiatrist wall to make sure they weren't all hallucinating.
Uh, care to explain?

That scene with Kirk and Lenore Karidian in “Conscience of the King” was the only time we saw the inside of the hangar deck observation gallery.

It was a very sparse, quickly thrown together, one-time set. It’s not an arboretum — there are no trees in it!

I'm sure they had a steam room besides the main engineering.
Is that “steam room” as in “Turkish bath,” or a room full of steam boilers to drive the engines?

Ah, Chris, I don't like the idea of a ready room as though he's not ready for anything as it is. Seems to me just a place for him to go and hide under his desk. I would rather see transporter pads on the bridge. I mean why not? And forget the seatbelts, it's a mistake to go out into space anyway if we're talking sequels here and have weapons anyway. That would seem to invite getting attacked.

Did Archer have a ready room/ office? I was too busy falling asleep to notice. Did they have replicators on ENT as they weren't featured in TOS?

^^Yes, a version of the ship's chapel was used again for the Kirk memorial service in "The Tholian Web".

^^ And it’s obviously the Briefing Room set with extra chairs, a podium and a lectern.

Did we ever see the complete shuttlebay as shown on the right? I can't remember if TOS-R ever showed it. I know the original did not.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the sets we got to see. I think we actually saw more interiors in TOS than any other series (redresses, but you know what I mean). Engineering, Aux. Control, Emergency Manual Monitor, Phaser Room, Briefing Room, Banquet Room, Chapel, Gymnasium, Environmental, Rec Room....so many. They did a lot with those sets. And each crew member's quarters seemed distinctly "theirs". Look at Uhura's quarters with the wooden chair and the tapestry on the bed and all the African masks. Seemed a lot more believable that this was the living space of someone on a long-term mission than in TNG or VOY where they all basically had the same furniture but with a few pieces rearranged and minor set dressing added.

If I had to pick something I would like to have seen, it would be other peoples' quarters. Sulu's, or Chekov's. Maybe some of the junior officers or enlisted crew.

Or maybe ship's stores :)

Perhaps there were no ready rooms between the beginning of the Federation designed starships until the 24th Century?
Science labs would be nice, even for an episode if they looked authentic enough,

I thought the idea of showing the rec room in "Charlie X" was terrific... but that was it. It would've been great to see a few more clips of it, in more detail. Maybe even a swimming pool. Also, there was mention of an arboretum. That would've been nice to see... perhaps Kirk taking a walk with a companion along a path in there.

But yeah, I'd have to chime in also and say other people's quarters. We saw Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and Uhura's quarters. It would've been a kick to see Chekov and Sulu bunking together. ;)
