What did you think of "The Wedding of River Song"?

there was a pilot at the WB years ago, about a split timeline, in one the lead girl was part of the in-crowd in the other she was a social outcast.

I actually like the idea of that as a series, ok so that was a teen drama, but forthcoming NBC series "Awake" seems like it could be interesting.

That entire year on Dallas was later declared to be just her dream. But it wasn't on KL ... they separated continuities there, so now they exist in parallel universes. In one, Bobby died. In the other, he didn't.

But was the whole year declared a dream? Or just Pam's stuff? I thought some of the events that happened still happened.

Edited to add: just checked Wiki. Yep. All of it a dream. Holy shit, she's got a very fertile imagination. Kudos to the writers, a gutsy fucking move.

Could that have been the first true reset button? Or just the most blatant?

I don't know about gutsy so much as producers/executives being gutless in not keeping him dead.

I assume they bought him back, because ratings had slipped, but ive never seen Dallas so I couldn't say.

Didnt even know about Knots Landing till today.

Hagman wanted him back. And Bobby was a popular character. As a producer, it's not about having guts sometimes. It's about pleasing your biggest star and the fans.

It's not like they were creating a work of art. It was a soap opera.

Dallas, Knots Landing, and geeky crossoverness:

I would also add that the Dalek isn't the machine it goes in. The eye stalk isn't part of its real body.

Yep. The Dalek was already dying from it's fight with whomever. The worst the Doctor did was spook it a little when he showed up to pop open its case and scan its computer.

Though he should probably keep that Dalek eyestalk. It's really effective at shutting people up.

I would also note that what a "Dalek" is a mere technicality. There really is little difference if you do anything to the biological or mechanical part. It's like saying The Cyberman metal body and the brain are two separate parts. Also, I want that Eye Stalk as a toy for my dog:D

That's a good point. Now that I think about it, the Dalek in "Dalek" apparently felt pain when it's casing was being sawed. On the other hand, it and other Daleks have at times feigned pain or helplessness to prey on the sympathies of their enemies, so it might've just been screaming because that was the only weapon left to it.

We also don't know how integrated the new Daleks are. They do have real flesh eyes at the tips of their eyestalks, which suggests it's more than just a metal casing.

Ok, I'll just say it: to me, there's an obvious answer to the question:

Doctor River Song.

I'll have you know that I figured out the question the moment we were told that it was hidden in plain sight. I also guessed River's identity the moment a married couple entered the TARDIS.

I said to myself, "Self, what's the one thing a married couple can have on a children's show that an unmarried couple can't? Children."

Question aside, I'd point out that the Doctor is now married. I'd point out what I did when Amy and Rory walked into the TARDIS after their wedding:

"What's the one thing a married Doctor can have on a children's show that an unmarried Doctor can't?"

Dakota Smith

^^ Given the rampant speculation about River being Amy and Rory's daughter beforehand, I'd say that was a rather common conclusion.

So, what are you saying about Doctor River Song? That she is the Doctor? Or that she and the Doctor have a baby? And what about that baby? You're not being clear.

I think the gag is that just like a married woman might refer to herself by her husband's name -- Amy could call herself "Mrs. Rory Williams" -- the Doctor could, if asked his name, reply by calling himself "Mr. River Song" or, if he wants to keep his "doctor" title, "Dr. River Song."

This would be a cheeky way of allowing the Doctor to answer the question of his name honestly while still keeping it a secret.

Except the Doctor has to say his name for real at some point, because River knows it at the Library. There are only so many times Moffat can fake out on that when we know it's going to happen eventually.

Actually we don't know what River whispered in the Doctor's ear in the Library. Most people assumed she told him his real name, but we don't know that for sure.

No, the Doctor said (as River was plugging herself in) that she told him his name and there is only one time he would have/could have done that.

But, just because he whispers it to River (sometime in our viewing future), doesn't mean we get to hear it.

Rule number one.

Naw, I think this is exempt from Rule #1. He told her his name sometime in her past (relative to Silence in the Library) for some reason (wedding, dying, bat mitzvah). He (Doc10) was very serious about this as he was trying to talk River out of virtually killing herself.

Yes, sure, you're probably right. I was just trying to demonstrate that when you want to retcon something, it's not hard to twist a couple of phrases here and there.
