Star Wars deleted scenes

Nice try George, but I'm still not going to buy your shitty Blu-rays. Not until you do a proper transfer of the original unaltered trilogy. No half-assed laserdisc transfers. No screwed up blue colouring over the films.

Indeed. The half-assed laserdisc transfers were profoundly disappointing.

There is quasi-cyclic interference on those original edition DVDs, that I suspect is an uncorrected by-product of the transfer process, and that looks like blue snow. I assume he is referring to that.

From a poster on another site: Ralph McQuarrie's photo-real concept paintings of the Hoth scenes, from which John Barry developed the look of the film, clearly show blue snow reflecting the blue of the sky overhead. The O-OT DVD of ESB shows that the snow was blue in most Hoth scenes.

By blue snow, I mean electronic static. In any case, Hoth wasn't in Star Wars (1977). If I recall correctly. I may have to rewatch to check.

ETA: Another effect is that colors which should remain constant oscillate wildly from frame to frame.

Another problem in the Star Wars (1977) DVD is that damaged film was evidently used, I presume for the original laserdisc.

If I remember right, the radio dramas did include some elements of the deleted scenes, but also a lot of new stuff made just for the dramas.

Yes, that's right. As far as the first one is concerned, the Biggs scenes are all basically there, for instance. There's other stuff too about how Leia gets the Death Star plans that's of questionable canon-icity, since e.g. her father's name is wrong. Also Luke wrecking his skyhopper.

though we can take the skyhopper bit to explain why Luke's line in ANH about why they couldn't take it to look for R2-D2.

So I guess some scenes are from unfilmed/cut scenes (the bit at Toshie Station comes from cut scenes - think Koo Stark was cast as Camie) while others are exposition and expansion though I don't recalled Leia's father's name being mentioned (anyone know when he got the name Bail?).

No, the only change to that scene on the Blu-ray is that now the rebel soldier on the left goes:
"No."
"NO!"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
