2011 MLB Season Discussion

Me neither.
My sadness at the fact that the Yankees won't be in the WS is mitigated by the fact that neither will the Phillies.

That is why to the rest of us, every loss, and every failure that they have is savored just a little bit more, because it denies Yankee fans something that many of them feel they are entitled to, a championship.

That's not what he said. He said he's sad when the Yankees don't get into it, not that they are entitled to it. And why wouldn't he be less interested in the World Series if his team isn't in it? I'm a Yankees fan and since they're out I won't be paying nearly as much attention as I would if they were in it.

Anyhow, shocked to see the Phillies are out of it. That means the two teams with the best record are out.

it also means MLB will be crying since the ratings will be shit lol

^I felt the same as a Mets fan in the Boston area after the Red Sox completed their epic tank job.

I don't care who wins the WS as I got no dog in the fight. But those two game 5's were classics last night. I really hope MLB comes to its senses and doesn't tinker with the current playoff format. The last thing we need is less emphasis on what is already a drawn out regular season, and playoffs that last until Thanksgiving.

To be fair, he went a TINY bit beyond saying he wasn't as interested when the Yankees weren't in it, didn't he?

Anything less than a Yankee championship makes baseball a little less excellent, and so a little less than it should be.

Yeah, Yankees not winning the World Series diminishes baseball. Doesn't sound like entitlement at all ;)

All you Yankees fans and Braves fans enjoy your schadenfreude while your team is also out of the playoffs.

The irony that we'd have played the Diamondbacks had we rested our starters isn't escaping me. Baseball playoffs tend to favor the hot team and the Cardinals were the hot team. The game sums up how the playoffs were to go. If we'd lose, it would be early.

Shame we wasted a gem of a game by Doc. But we needed good hitting and didn't have any. Congrats to the Cardinals.

But then you get into the argument of should they rest their starters to get them fresh for the playoffs but possibly rusty, or play them at the end of a long season risking fatigue and injury because baseball is an everyday sport.

Also, what did your team do to piss off the baseball gods? Bad enough they lost to a shouldn't have made it wild card team, but then to lose your big slugger on the play that eliminates your team? Did you run over their dog or drink all their good scotch or something?

My baseball team sucks, so I need another analogy. It'd be like watching that Pats-Jets playoff game I went to in January, seeing the outcome, thinking 'damn, they coulda won it all but spit the bit today,' and then watching a meteor fall from the sky and flatten Brady on the way to the locker room.

I've got a God given right to watch the Phillies go down, but I don't understand why some Yankees fans hate the Phillies so much. The Yankees won that World Series.

Suspect it is because the Phillies were the popular pick to win it all this year, and the Yankees fans kinda resent not being automatically put into the World Series. Someone else was being picked for the thing that should be the Yankees' by birthright. Or something...

I assume it's just because they threw all the money in the world at a pitcher and he turned them down to play somewhere else for a reason besides money.

I don't think that the Yankees are in any way entitled to the World Series; I'm sorry that I seem to be coming across that way.

Perhaps I could explain it better this way: it's more that I'm a fan of baseball because of what the Yankees represent in it than that I'm a fan of the Yankees because they're my favorite baseball team. Does that make more sense?

I can't speak for other Yankees fans, but something irritates me about the Phillies for reasons I can't explain. I first saw them (first heard of them, actually) in the 2009 World Series, and they immediately bothered me for some reason; they remind me of Auburn in college football - a team that succeeds on the field, but doesn't seem to have the right attitude somehow.
