Is it just me or did civilian clothes improve from TNG?

There were some outright silly looking outifts on TNG over the years whenever we would see civilian clothes but I thought there was maked improvement on Ds9 in this regard. some the outfits Sisko wore actually lloked like something I might wear in the present day. Jake's outfits got better as he got older. I liked that we got some variety from the Ferengi clothes instead of putting them all in those grey military uniforms we saw the Ferengi wear on TNG.

And don't forget about the Romulans going from those square shouldered monkey suits to the sleek sexy ones on DS9 and Nemesis.

Of course they did. TNG started during the 80s and back then mullets were cool. Mullets.were.cool. Think about it.

Jake still had some outfits that caused me physical pain to see, but civvie clothes DID get better over the course of the show into something actually believable. This is a good point of Insurrection as well, I think. Star Trek grew out of its silly FUUUUTUUURE CLOTHES from the 80s.

^ Except the rattail...though I'm not sure how much more "contemporary" they are than the mullet.

Mullets will always be cool.
So are skullets.

Anyway DS9 civilian clothing improved a lot. There was less rubber/spandex body-clinging suits and more natural looking materials. Besides I blame the 80's for all the wacky TNG civilian outfits.

And then you look at the Voyager civvies. Aside from some downright sexy dresses, absolutely nothing looked stylish or even comfortable to wear. Harry had some particularly horrible outfits, but they were all pretty crummy.

The Houston Astros of the 70's would be proud.

I've never really understood the alien worlds where everyone wears the same outfight. -shrug-

That's what bothered me the most about that episode. Everything else was pretty well done, but then you have a whole population of believable post 20th century Earthlike aliens that all wear the same thing.

I think you're proving that civilian clothes DIDN'T improve, but got worse.

Would you wear an outfit from 300 years ago? Probably not.

So why does Jake wearing clothes that look like something from 300 years ago (his perspective - ie, if you would wear it, it's modern to you) work better for you?

Just saying. :)
