No reason to - they didn't do it with TOS-R.
We'll be lucky if they fix the phasers in the photon tube in "Darmok"...
1080p means 1,080 vertical pixels, that's the cap for a Blu-ray disc and 1080p TVs.If they did two versions, the master would have to be in something like 1920x1440 pixels, right? So that they can create a 16:9 1080p version and a 4:3 1080p version in best quality?
It would certainly be possible to put multiple versions on a disc, but that would require completely separate video files.... essentially doubling the number of discs required in a box set.

My dreams consist of:
1. Winning the lottery.
2. Watching the TNG blu-rays to see that they fixed the phasers in the photon tube in "Darmok".
It was a low quality stream off Youtube. Meh. You get the point.Soon...

That picture looks just as fuzzy to me as the DVD.

I too don't understand the desire for widescreen. The show was never shown in widescreen, nor was it filmed that way. However, if you feel that need, your Blu-ray player or TV will have a 4:3 to 16:9 zoom function. It's pretty easy to do.

It was filmed on an HD medium, but it wasn't filmed for high definition. The gaffer's tape on the rear displays and so forth...you can't get away with that today.I too don't understand the desire for widescreen. The show was never shown in widescreen, nor was it filmed that way.

Actually, it was filmed on 35mm, which has a much higher resolution than 1080p HD. So, having it on BD will get us closer to how it was filmed. However, I don't think that's what you meant, or is it?

Not to repeat myself but if anyone is looking for an example of a show that was filmed at 4:3 and successfully converted to 16:9 try watching the high def re-runs of Seinfeld. It mostly looks really good. There is the occasional shot that looks a little cramped.
If they did about the same job on TNG I'd be fine with it. I'd also be fine with a 4 x 3 frame as well. I'm just happy to be getting them in HD.
