What's wrong with Comic Sans?

The thing with the use of fonts, as with anything else in page design, is context. A font should be chosen with regard to its relationship to the content and theme of the document. Some people choose a font just because it looks 'cool' without ever thinking about whether or not it fits the theme. Of course, these same people also load up on pixelated and/or badly colored clip art, run on sentences and inappropriate capitalizations or use of "quotes".

(I do signs/flyers/ads as a second job so I'm probably oversensitive to this.)

For April Fool's day next year T'Bonz should make the board's font be Comic Sans Bold Italic.

Hmnmmm. I wonder if there's people out there who can "read" Wingdings?

I'm sure some people here are decent klingon-speakers, a few might be able to read wingdings.

S'okay. Comic Sans now has another year's worth of overuse.

I'm tired of seeing Papyrus everywhere, too.

There must be another thread on this topic. I'm sure I posted about this in the last few weeks.

My hate of Comic and Papyrus could fill several pages of a thread like this. I do graphical-printy-artish stuff for fun... and when people ask me to use one or the other I KILL THEM SO HARD THEY HAVE NO IDEA. :techman:

I really like Palatino but I don't seem to get a lot of agreement there.

Arial needs to FOAD, though. Laziest font ever.

If I must have a sans serif font, give me Verdana.

I'm also of the mind that the only good font Microsoft ever gave us was System. But I mean the version where there's a dot in the middle of 0, not the slash. BRING BACK THE DOT!

...FLASHBACK! of my days using a pre-Windows 286...

Command line...remember to park the drive...no graphics...NO GRAPHICS, MAN!

I always loved the sound parking the heads made on my Amstrad 286 clone.

MS-DOS 4.01 was a bit scary, though. I fucked up my configuration with edlin more than once, and since it was the family computer, my parents were not amused.

On the computer course I was on at the time, a couple of us used to write batch files to fuck with the tutors - false error reports on bootup, that sort of thing. Hehehe.

Errr.....fonts! Yeah! I like Verdana amd Palatino as well. And if you need a "comic" style font, there are many that look better than Comic Sans.

There was a thread about favorite fonts, but I can't find it.

Neither can I. I knew Timby recently repeated his hatred for Copperplate but the search turns up nothing. NOOOOTHIIIING.

Found and bumped:

ETA: Eh, crap, maybe I'm wrong -- that thread's addressed to Timby, but he never actually posted in it. Sorry.

Personally I like Tahoma and Palatino, although at work our standard font is Calibre.
Comic Sans is my son's favorite. He's nine...
