What ever happened to Number One from The Cage?

MarsWeeps

One thing I would like to have seen in TOS (or movies) was a re-appearance of the character of Pike's Number One. Since Majel was still alive all that time it would have been nice to see her reprise that role.

Of course, they would have to give her a name but I'm thinking she could have shown up as a ship's Captain or even a cameo in The Menagerie where she showed up to visit wheelchair Pike.

Were there any novels written about the character?

The first DC Comics Annual, "All Those Years Ago..." showed her being critically injured on the cargo bay the day Kirk was taking on the captaincy of the Enterprise, meaning Spock moved up in rank.

Marvel/Paramount's "Early Voyages" comic gave her surname as Robbins, and a first name of "Eure-" - but Pike was cut off in mid sentence.

IDW recently featured her in a comic mini-series, "Crew", with guest appearances in other John Byrne storylines.

She was also supposed to be revealed as Admiral Timothea Rogers in "A Flag Full of Stars", but the Star Trek Office made Brad Ferguson drop the explanatory reference.

The jury is out whether the "New Frontier" character, Morgan Primus (Primus = One), was Number One, or just another character who would have been played by Majel Barrett had it been live action. She was said to have once worked with Spock on a starship bridge, sounded like the ship's computer, resembled both Chapel and Mrs Troi, was Robin Lefler's mother, and once used the surname Lefler ("Captain's Table" Pike novel).

It would have been hard to insert her into that episode without disrupting the flow of the story, what would have been her purpose? And it would have raised the question of why she (instead of Spock) wasn't "kidnapping" Pike and taking him to Talos.

There is a chance, I suppose, that she might appear in one of the future movies.

:)

Replace Mendez with her character and have a whole new spin on the story.

Another version could have her "kidnap Pike" and take him to Talos IV with her ship, and have the Enterprise go after them, where Spock secretly helps her. Lots of different possibilities. :)

In JJ's movie, she could have been Pike's "Number One" that was maybe killed by Nero, or she could have also been promoted at the end of the movie (to replace one of the destroyed ship's captains). Not sure how they would have her in a future movie and have the audience know it was her, unless it was specifically mentioned that she used to be "Number One" on the Enterprise.

Which pretty much has to be Eureka. I can't think of any other word that begins with those four letters. Unless it actually is just "Eure," which is the name of a department in France. But given her reluctance to be addressed by her given name, I think it was probably Eureka and she was embarrassed by it.

It doesn't have to be a name we are familiar with. Right off the bat I can think of:

Eurenika
Eureasia
Eurebelle
Eurellen
Eurebabe

But...I never really considered comics to be a valid source of info.

In my world, Number One could have been Lt. Tricia Garrett, grandmother of the Enterprise-C's Rachel Garrett. ;)

Well, that's an unfair attitude. Comics are no more or less "valid" than novel tie-ins. They're just a different way of telling a story. Most would agree that the Early Voyages comics are some of the best Pike-era fiction out there, and at least one character from them, Chief Engineer Moves-With-Burning-Grace, has been incorporated into the novel continuity.

As far as I can it was a one-off but it's a great pity that they didn't use her a little more, I would loved to have seen Kirk work with her as his #1 before she morphed in a transporter accident into a nurse who would then pine after Spock or Bones:devil:
