Funny, absinthe here is legal since 1992, and even before that the ban (itself an anachronistic remnant of the early XX century craze) was rarely enforced. I had to google Zima, and from what I've read it doesn't sound very attractive to my tastes. But I don't like alcopop in general.

Yes and no. Absinthe as it's produced in other countries is still illegal, though you can get your hands on it via import. In the U.S., Absinthe can be produced if the product (I forgot it's name) made by wormwood is removed and it gets approved by the FDA.

We're just weird here in the U.S. about some things. We have women in tight shorts cavort in front of cameras during football games, but we denounce nudity on TV as immoral and fight it for the children, and in the same vein we'll let children see a bloodied, dead body after it's been shot a dozen times and stabbed, but we won't let them hear swear words. We talk about getting your ass wasted on beer, wine, whisky and such, but our "war on drugs" counts marijuana as one of it's targets. So go figure.
