2011 MLB Season Discussion

It's going to be Tigers at Yankees and Rays at Texas. It's sort of unfortunate since the Yanks have some good numbers against the Rangers this year.

yep I had to root for the red sox's this week end over yankees. that helps out the rangers.

So if you weren't already impressed by last night's results...

If anything, it was a privilege to watch the second most epic fail in baseball history (braves), THE most epic fail in baseball history (red sox) and the greatest comeback in baseball history (rays) all in one night. Pretty much a once in a lifetime event.

I don't know, I'd still say the most epic collapse in baseball history was the 1969 Cubs ... in first place for 155 days, up until September 2, then losing 17 out of 25. Jesus fuck, I'm glad I wasn't alive for that.

I suppose a good argument can be made for the Cubs. That being said, we all know it's the Cubs' destiny to never win a World Series so it shouldn't be too shocking

Let me put it this way: They had a 17.5-game lead over the Mets, and finished eight games behind them.

There are a couple of big ones. The Phillies Collapse in 1964, the Cubs in 69, the Mets a few years ago. Each collapse has its own flavor. I wonder if it's different with the playoffs and a Wild Card and which way that swings as far as collapses go.

It was the only double collapse, though. That's pretty damn impressive.

Although, once again, I do want to give the team that won credit as well. It takes two to tango.

According to multiple reports, Terry Francona has requested his option years not be picked up by the Red Sox...

Shit...I really don't want to see him go.

Eh, I like what he's done during his time with the Red Sox, and he's arguably the best (or, at least, the most successful) manager in Red Sox history, but I can understand if he wants to move on. I can see the ownership wanting to get some new blood in there anyway.

It does sound like a mutual parting. Soemtimes, it's just time to leave a job and go a different direction.

I'm not fan of the team, but I live in the area and see plenty of media coverage. Considering he successfully managed in a brutal market in terms of fans and media with unrealistic expectations, he always seemed to carry himself with class and appeared to be a calm hand at the wheel. He was a good fit here. Hopefully he finds something new pretty soon that suits him.
