2011 MLB Season Discussion

Yeah, that's part of it. Weather's fine down in DC. Hopefully Baltimore will clear up soon.

Phillies and Braves are now tied, fwiw.

They would never call the game with so much at stake, would they?

If nothing else, you'd think the Rays would complain. If the Rays lose in 9 innings, wouldn't they insist that the Red Sox also be given 9 innings to lose, so there'd be a chance for a tiebreaker?

As I understand it, they can delay a game without calling it for some ridiculous amount of time (at least 48 hours). They could always play it tomorrow in the worst case scenario.

BTW, Rays have pulled within one as well.

Wouldn't they have to delay the tiebreaker, in that case, to give the Red Sox time to travel?

I would think so, but I would view that as a more satisfying result than calling it.

Of course, if the Rays win, the significance of giving the Red Sox a shortened game win would be less (not great, but still).

And, as I type, they're announcing the game is resuming.

Yep, Sox game back on. WTF Yankees? Not quite sure I get how pinch hitting Posada for Cano is supposed to work...

I guess the Yanks really DO want the Rays to make  :p

On the flip side is Boston planning on winning this game by murdering all the O's? Two hit batters in a row? Really?

For whatever reason Girardi decided to run through all his pitchers and blow the game. What the fuck???

Well then...

Then again, not like the Sox had much chance in the playoffs with what they were bringing out there. What was the upside here? Starting Lackey in a must-win game 163? Felt like a pretty fitting end, Crawford dropping a catchable ball...

*sigh*

Papelbon blows the save and the Orioles win. And Longoria just hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 12th to send the Rays to the playoffs.

Well, damn.

Honestly, though, I'm not all that upset. The Red Sox have nobody to blame but themselves. They just completely collapsed this month.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens during the offseason.

ETA: Congrats to the Rays for battling back from a huge deficit in the Wildcard race, and then a huge deficit in this game.

Given what the Yankees did down in Tampa tonight, I hope the Rays come back to bite them in the ALCS. At least half-ass it, huh?

As far as comedy, though, it had me thinking Torre was back in town when the Yankees started abusing Proctor again

Wow, what an epic night of baseball. I'm a Yankees fan and by the end I was rooting for Tampa because it was just such an amazing comeback both in the game and for the season as a whole.

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011: One of the great nights in Major League Baseball History.

Seriously, what an amazing night this was. From all the drama, to the comic gold that was Harold Raynold's and Dan Plesac's reaction on MLB Network, you can't get any better than that. MLB took center stage tonight and it was glorious.

Too bad he did it by going 1-1 in his first at-bat and then sitting out the rest of the game. But he's not the first batting champion to have done something like that.
