Do you ever think Data explored homosexuality?

I mean it would make sense. He techincally can be any orientation he wants to be so why noy explore both sides to see what one fits best for him. I think it would have made for a good episode.

Maybe he did, but then again, Data's sexual encounters have occured as the result being pursued. In the first instance, Yar was under the effects of something similar to the PSI 2000 virus, she "infected" Data and seduced him, if you would have it that way.

Data's second encounter came about from Jenna, and although they were never sexual with each other, it was still her who pursued him. Since Data cannot feel attraction, he accepted her advances as an experiment, if you like.

As for the Borg Queen, it was just pure manipulation, taking advantage of his emotion chip and seducing him to coerce the computer's lockdown codes. In this case, we find that Data wasn't actually on her side at any point and merely considered her offer to join them for less than a second and then decided to play along. Whether that meant having sex with her to make her think that he was being tempted is up to the viewers imagination.]

Anyway to return to the original point. Since no males were shown to pursue Data throughout the course of the franchise, we can assume that the thoughts of homosexuality never crossed his mind. Data didn't have any urges and his sexual encounters have occured as part of his curiosity and the other person being attracted to him (because let's face it, even with the emotion chip, it would seem Data is incapable of physical attraction).

I absolutely think Data and Geordi had a 'friends with benefits' arrangement during the engineer's dry spells lasting several years.

I have to agree with Sandoval here, Data and Geordi were definately fuck friends. It's not really homosexuality if one party is a an android though is it, more like robosexuality..

Geordi engaging in sex with Data would be no different from visiting a holodeck and doing the nasty with a hologram. Both are artificial.

Plus Data probably wouldn't get clingy afterwards.

"I will delete the appropriate program."

Heh.

I don't see any reason why Data would inherently be opposed to such a thing.

Yes, while at the Academy, Data did all sort of experimenting. As a result he had many sexual encounters with women, men and of course Bolians. People do these sort of things during their college years.

I would think had the thought occurred to the writers/producers and/or the show had had the courage to explore this idea, then yes, Data could have explored homosexuality. It would have been a good way for Star Trek to explore homosexuality further without having a gay character for the sake of having a gay characters.

No, and the constant insistence that males being friends = homosexuality is a form of homophobia.

Um...how? :wtf:

99% of the time, I'm guessing it's just a joke.

Batman and Robin (TV show or movie) it's assumed they MUST be gay not friends
Xena and Gabrielle it's assumed they must be gay not friends

There are a lot of characters in shows that are friends and people assume they are gay.

Then again, there is Jack Harkness...... :p

You can assume or joke around that these characters are gay, but that doesn't make it homophobia.

I would say that it is possible he was pursued by a male crewmember earlier in his career, how else could he vouch for being "fully functional".

As Admiral M stated, he had no sexual desire, so he would always be the one who was being pursued, and being an enlightened android of the 24th century he wouldn't have an issue with it.

As for him and Geordi I would say they were just friends (Geordi did have holo-Leah). Had Yar stayed, she and Data could have evolved into friends with benefits.

Then there is this:
No, and the constant insistence that males being friends = homosexuality is a form of homophobia.
As a gay man, I don't automatically assume every male-male 'pairing' on TV or film are involved in a sexual or romantic manner. Statements like that are just the same as saying that every man and woman who are friends must be doing it (Janeway and Tuvok anyone?).

Data had just had sex with Tasha only a few minutes before, that's where "fully" came from.

Always homosexual no, on occasion yes. There are friends who share benefits, but I don't think this was the case with data and LaForge.

Homosexuality only really makes sense to explore on the emotional level...It's after the issue of attraction. Data doesn't feel attraction.

I see Data concluding that his designed gender dictated the gender of his pairing . And that is certainly how he did it in TNG. Data is a machine (or was) what makes sense to him is primarily programing and logic problems. While he makes choices (liike we do) you have to realize that to large extent he still could not over come his programing like we can.. Our basic instinct is to pair and procreate. We can defy that instinct but lets say Data was programed with attraction. He wouldn't be able to defy that instinct, just as he couldn't defy his ethics program without a hack or simply why he couldn't develop feelings himself. He wasn't programed to.

Considering that data is "fully functional" it's possible Data has a pairing program thus his instinct. Again looking to what he did...it seems that instinct or programing was for the opposite sex because he never explored the same sex partnership.

Seems to me B4 would be the "gay" one.
