Quite liking it

Maybe its an old story but I grew up on TOS and TNG, but at the time didn't really like DS9. I was a bit too young I think.

A few years ago I when the TNG DVDs came out I bought all of those and fell in love with again, not realizing how good it was. So when I ran out of those I started reading on here how good DS9 was, and how that maybe I was missing out

TOTALLY TRUE. I'm not mid way through season 3 and its really good. Some clunkers for sure but overall its some damn fine tv. Good character development, no easy endings (that often), and some serious Dominion forboding going on now. I have an idea of what's ahead (but please no ruining it for me!) but I'm totally excited to watch it roll out.

Bashir is much less annoying now, Dax showed her sensitive side a few times, Sisko's beard is coming and they got the Defiant so there's the the problem of being stuck solved

I think it's great when Trekkies discover more trek. Glad you gave it a try. Have you watched any Voyager or Enterprise?

I was a TNGed who didn't like DS9 on principle, now its my favourite instalment of Trek.

Enjoy it while it lasts, DS9 is the high point of Trek.

I never thought I'd like DS9, then I watched "Necessary Evil", thought it was fairly good, and then started watching it when it was Season 4.

I sometimes wish I'd never watched it, just so I could watch it again without knowing what was going to happen.

DS9 is my favorite television series. It's wonderful that the show is still attracting new fans.

I did the same as you, garoo. :vulcan:
Grew up on TOS, then during TNG I was the officially designated VCR helmsman. But I skipped the beginning of DS9 and found in inaccessible later on due to the serialism. (Gene, you had a point...) Re-discovered it about 3 years ago via Netflix and watched the whole thing start to finish. Great show, lovely production values. I watched it with surround sound as well which is fun at times, mostly the Promenade.

Keep going. Some of that mid series stuff from DS9 deserves a spot in "best of all Trek."

It definitely was hurt by the first season being so hit and miss. Not that TNG's first season is awesome or anything, but I think with DS9 you probably do have to watch it in order.

I've seen a couple from the Dominion War and now wish I hadn't. They were good enough that they made me reconsider the whole show, but they did ruin a little bit of what's ahead.

Oh and I read a ton of the books too and although I don't read DS9 ones they cross over so much its hard not to get a little bit of it. Section 31 for example, I have an idea but not a really good idea

Oh and I should mention too that the show holds up really well for its age. Like TNG the fashion and hair and stuff is all neutral, the special effects are good, if it was widescreen I'd believe it was new

When you've finished the series, you should go back and watch some of the weaker episodes. You'll find they have their strengths as well.

Keep watching. It just keeps on getting better and better and when you finally watch "What You Leave Behind", you are going to want to carry on with the books. Read them in order. Great stuff!!

I just joined and have been telling my very typical story all over the BBS. I just want to say I am so glad that you are enjoying the program.

I'm almost done season 3

I was searching and came across a Top 10 list. I won't link to it (its all subjective anyway), but I was delighted to see that EIGHT of the top 10 are yet to come! That's some good news :)

Yes, you're in for some of Trek's best hours. :) DS9 broke the episodic nature of Trek more than any other series -- including ENT. It's more a long-running action drama, with multiple threads that go on for season after season..

I don't know why, but DS9 just makes you want to watch another episode, and another, and...

I never got that feeling with TNG.
