Well, for what it's worth I hope they pull it togetherYankees against Rays in the post season is "meh". Yankees vs Red Sox for the chance to make it into the World Series has been and always will be epic
you really don't think Granderson is a contendor for MVP, being second in home runs, leading in runs, leading in RBIs and leading in triples? Come onJose Bautista was traded to the Yankees? Since when?
They certainly weren't the medias favorites to win the Division at the beginning of the season...or even to make it into the post season, as this pre-season article showsAnd they were never underdogs...ever. You can't be a 210 million dollar team and be underdogs. They are just another good team in the division.

espn in particular was big on giving the Division and the World Series to the Red Sox You can even see that mindset in this thread if you turn back the pages a bit.

Granderson is a contender obviously, but he's not a slam dunk as RAMA wrote, and I suspect that Bautista would win. Hell Ellsbury is just as much in the race as Granderson. I shamelessly stole this info from another site, but "10th in fWAR (Ellsbury has a .6 lead on Bautista for 1st, ftr), 10th in wRC+ (Ellsbury is 6th), 9th in OPS (Ellsbury is 6th), 8th in AVG (Ellsbury is 5th), tied for 15th in HR (Ellsbury is tied for 9th), tied for 2nd in RBI (Ellsbury is tied for 8th)."
As for them being underdogs, I get that in the preseason that they we're not the favored team, in light of the Red Sox moves, and I honestly believe that had it not been for the injuries to the rotation (not an excuse, just saying that no team can win with their 7-8-9 starters in the depth chart as their 3-4-5) that they would have won the division. The Yankees got healthy and took off, the Red Sox didn't. Hopefully if they get to the postseason that can change. However, they weren't underdogs, you can call them that. They weren't favored, but they weren't the Rays either.
