OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors write

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

Why not just merge Dr Who with Battlestar Galactica and have David blow it all up, except for the last part. Blood and Chrome and time travel and throw in Riddick too.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

Other franchises I still want to write for someday: Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, Primeval, Merlin, Dark Shadows, Xena, Kolchak. Heck, I wouldn't be adverse to trying my hand at Conan, too.

What can I say? I'm a tie-in slut . . .

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

By the way, I was a science/continuity consultant on Keith's Andromeda novel Destruction of Illusions (along with Heather Jarman, IIRC), and I put him in touch with one of the producers that I knew online so they could discuss continuity and such, so that was the first published novel I had any input into and the first time I got named in a book's acknowledgments.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

Again, I was going to suggest that Keith could probably have fun with Doctor Who, but I think he's already done that . . . .

I submitted a Merlin outline to Random House Childrens a few years ago; I found out who the editor was over there handling the Merlin line and decided to give it a go. What's the worst that could happen -- he'd say no?

He did say no, and it was the best rejection letter I've ever received. He loved the story -- it made a link in the Arthurian legends that, as far as I can tell, had never been made before -- but since they were only doing novelizations and not original novels he couldn't use it.

I need to de-Merlin-ify that outline. Maybe this year for NaNoWriMo...

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

For myself, I'd love to do something Star Wars, having been a regular contributor to the Fact Files back in the day (but it would have to be something set during the movie eras, and there is a particular thing I've always wanted to do with/about the Imperial military) or James Bond (but since they've gone to just having big-name literary guest star writers, that's me fucked.)

I'd also love to do something Saints Row-ish (and involving Johnny Gat), and the Assassin's Creed universe's mix of history, fantasy and SF is right up my street, but sadly is a one-author (or house pseudonym, perhaps) series.

Same goes for Psych - I'd love to do a Psych tie-in, but it's a single-author series.

Actually, I seem to have a problem with wanting all the unattainable ones!

Um... CSI or Warehouse 13 would be fun. I suspect I'd probably suit Torchwood even more than I did Dr Who...

He's certainly done some short stories, and I think edited a Short Trips collection as well.

I chased after Smallville for awhile, but was never able to land a contract . . . .

How about an Isaac Asimov's Foundation novel by Christopher? :)
It has been over a decade since Foundation's Triumph; it's time for the Asimov estate to commission another novel set in the Robots/Empire/Foundation universe. :)

David Mack would, I think, also write an interesting Foundation novel, based on his first Mirror Universe novel which had a definite Foundation influence.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

I also kind of regret having come into Buffy-interest too late to get in on those books. If ever they bring them back...

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

I'd be interested in seeing an Andromeda novel from Christopher.

...and I would've loved to do a complementary prequel novel about Dylan and the Commonwealth in its prime.

I think that would have been great to see. They had developed such a rich background for that series, it would have been fun to see that explored more.

And of course there's zero chance of reviving the tie-in novels. Outside of its fanbase, Andromeda is considered a minor footnote in genre television. There'd be no market to speak of.

Sadly true. Would love to see more Andromeda stories in the vein of the RHW-era of the show. Novels, comics, something. *sigh*

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

And then, of course, there are those series that sadly never beget book lines. I always thought CHUCK or THE HUMAN TARGET would have been fun to write for, but nobody ever licensed the book rights. And I remained amazed that nobody ever did COLD CASE books. That seemed like a natural.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

I would like to see Dayton write NCIS novels, and I know he would jump at the chance, but I guess that boat has sailed.
:sigh:

I would also like to see some of the trek authors (for example Keith, Greg or Dayton) tackle a series of Reaper novels. I really liked the series and its characters and would like to see it given a proper conclusion in book form. But as it has been off the air for several years now and never was that big of a hit I'm not holding my breath.

Moving away from franchises with zero chance of a tie-in line:

Definitely would like to see more Warehouse 13 novels by Greg, and would gladly read Lonemagpie's shot at it, too.

Yeah. I always wondered why Cold Case never got a tie-in line, too. You could tell stories in a plethora of settings, what more do you want if you have a stable of capable writers?

Franchises that never licensed book lines... I'm astonished there wasn't a Mission Impossible line, especially with the Tom Cruise movies, and surprised Leverage hasn't spawned a few tie-ins either.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

Greg Cox would write a solid Covert Affairs novel, I think.

I was always sorry there weren't Moonlight novels. I'd've loved to have written one of those.

Thanks! I'm crossing my fingers for the proposed H. G. Wells spinoff, too.

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

I'd love David Mack or Dayton Ward to do something in the Transformers movie universe or the GI Joe Rise of Cobra/Retaliation universe...

i also would love Dayton or David to do something tied to "Strike Back"/"Strike Back: Project Dawn"...

or the Modern Warfare era Call of Duty games

One author, under a pseudonym (his real name is Anton Gill). Though they're all novelizations of the games so far, not original novels.

The first couple are novelisations but I think the newest one (not out yet, AFAIK) is a "filling in the gaps" kind of thing.

Frankly they're shit, though, aren't they?

I mean, gawd knows there are enough people who'll tell you how rubbish I am, and there are a lot more books I've read that make me go "I wish I could be that good" or "I could never pull that off" - but the AC books are among the few that I'll admit really make me go "I could do better than this."
