My favorite part of the article:

Getting a bit off-topic, but does anyone know why those Monty Python characters are called Gumbys? Obviously they have no connection to Art Clokey’s animated clay character.

The claymation character Gumby isn't widely known in the UK. However, my guess is that Terry Gilliam named the Python character after the US character for some obscure reason best known to him. I would do more research but my brain hurts.
