I think the interests of fairness might demand at least a "none of the above" option lol... and no, he may be misguided from some of our perspectives, but he's no more insane than the rest of us.

Not that that's much comfort, of course! :p

I get it now - you're just starting topic after topic dissing Lucas because he's pissed some CG bits on another scene in old Star Wars, or something.

Yeah, good luck with that.

He's not insane or misguided. He just need people around that challenge him and tell him he's screwing up, instead of yes-men that constantly suck up to him.

For example, Lucas wanted C3P0 to sound like a greasy car salesman, but it's pointed out that Anthony Daniels already has a good voice. If only someone said something about JarJar.

THIS

That's his biggest problem, he's surrounded by Yes Men only telling him what he wants to hear and not what he needs to hear.

Someone I know personally who worked at ILM on the Special Editions and the PT told me people were afraid to say critical things to him in meetings.

Employee: George Lucas, you're new ideas don't make sense. JarJar is stupid. Anakin shouldn't...
Lucas: Stop. I'm George Lucas. I created the Star Wars Empire. Who are you?
Employee: I just sketch aliens concepts.
Lucas: Wrong. You used to sketch alien concepts.
Employee: I'm getting promoted?
Lucas: No. You're fired.

I think George is just trolling now. He's tired of people shitting on him. Because there's no other explanation for the "Nooo!" insertion in RotJ, is there? Dude has to be trolling.

Insane, definitely. Spielberg too. Just look what they did to poor Indiana Jones....

The IJ movies have been mostly unaltered on dvd. They only did stuff like remove visual wires from some action scenes and erase some glass between IJ and the snake from the first movie. Lucas probably didn't go crazy with the changes since most people consider IJ to be Spilberg's movies.

Nice strawman poll you have there. My answer would be: driven. Not driven to insanity. Nor driven to inanity. Driven to perfect his work. Of course perfection is unattainable but is life truly worth living if one isn't brave enough to dream impossible dreams?

I think more than anything, Lucas isn't fanboy proof. Outside of geek culture, the rest of the world either likes or doesn't care what Lucas does with his movies.

Insane like a fox.

And I have a smarmy line about how by that I mean he has an IQ of about 10, but, yeah, he's rich, and I'm not.

I think it comes down to him being a very different person now than he was when he made the movies the first time around. A very different person with a lot of money, no one to tell him no and a strange compulsion to fix something that no one else thought was broken.

Well within his rights as owner and 'creator' of Star Wars, but also the reason I haven't purchased anything with the Star Wars logo on it in nearly a decade. The only remnants of my once enormous love of the franchise are a couple bobble heads I got for Christmas last year and a few CDs with the Laserdisk version of the movies burned on them.

Lucas's Star Wars revisions pale in comparison to William Friedkin's treatment of The French Connection - anyone who owns the Blu-ray edition will know what I mean. For me, the downright bizarre (and radical) alteration to the colour timing is clear evidence of a director who has truly lost the plot.
