Savatage - Hall Of The Mountain King

Grade: D+

Liked: The guitar sounded decent.

Disliked: It's not my style. The voice wasn't as bad as some other metal vocals, but it all seemed a bit samey and boring, especially seeing it goes on for about five minutes.

Just this one bump. I thought this thread would be more popular, especially considering the success of the other similar threads- and this one only needs one song, so should be easier. Surely not everyone's ran out of songs now? :(

David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium

Grade: B-

Liked: The basic sound of the song. Kinda atmospheric, good electronic music. The singer doesn't really separate herself from the music much, but it works well. Not what I was expecting from David Guetta, who I only know as a singer from that (awful) song "Sexy Bitch."

Disliked: A bit slow and even heavy at times, which clashes with what I'm used to from electronic music.

David Guetta doesn't sing at all on his records, he's a DJ. :p "Sexy Bitch" was Akon singing.

It's hardly his best anyway. 'When Love Takes Over', 'Memories', 'Who's That Chick' and 'Titanium' are probably his best (3/4 of those have female guest stars, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna and Sia, Memories has Kid Cudi and some awesome beats). All his other ones pretty much sound exactly like 'Sexy Bitch', so I wouldn't recommend them.

Old Crow Medicine Show - I Hear Them All

Grade: C

Liked: The atmospheric sound of the song. Pleasant to listen to, and some interesting things done with the mouthpieces. The title line is sung well to a point that grabs your attention.

Disliked: It's a bit MoR (middle of the road) for me. Inoffensive, nothing standout about it, good background music etc. Sorry.

Liked: I liked the singers voice. She has a really unique timbre, with obvious accentations from her native Helsinki.

Disliked: I'm not keen on the common style of arrangement. There are many songs these days that rely on similar four chord progressions in the chorus. I didn't really like the subject matter of the lyrics.

Liked Energetic music, good to wake up to this morning. It was fun trying to figure out what the song was supposed to be out, given that I don't speak Turkish. The male appears very popular with the ladies.
Disliked The lyrics are in Turkish (I assume), and he sings too fast for me to appreciate them as sounds rather than words I don't understand.

Amy Winehouse - Will You Love Me Tomorrow

Grade: B-

Liked: Having never before listened to Amy Winehouse I liked it more than I expected. I like acoustic sound to the accompaniment and little percussion-y guitar effect (don't know the technical term?)

Disliked: Pretty generic love-song lyrics, vocal embellishments got to be be too much particularly at 2:02

Liked: It picks up as it gets to the middle of the song, and he sounds like a good singer. I can tell that it's his real voice. Also, I like the song title. :)

Disliked: A bit slow, and at first I could barely hear him, and even as he got a bit louder, I still found it hard to distinguish any of the lyrics, which annoyed me, because I really liked the sound/vibe.

Owl City - This is the Future

Grade: C

Liked: The guy's voice is pleasant enough, and the instruments are well done. Technically speaking, Owl City's in good shape.

Disliked: It was just... kinda bland. I've never really cared for Owl City; I recognize what they're (he's?) going for, but it's never clicked with me. Fireflies at least was a bit catchy, but this just doesn't work for me, sorry.

Serj Tankian - Empty Walls

Grade: A

Liked: What can I say, this was a blind buy in Rock Band. Love the anger, love Serj's voice... Wasn't a terribly difficult song but it was fun to play in the game. Serj is definitely unique, and that's usually a plus in my book.

Disliked: Not much, I mean, it's not the kind of super catchy song you put on repeat, but it's not meant to be.

This reminds me of something else, but I'm not sure what.

Liked: The message, although I think it would be more accurate if it said "Money can be pure Evil", but that doesn't have the same ring to it. I also liked the vocals, the instrumental, and the vibe, because I know some similar sounding songs, and really like them.

Disliked: There was something a bit weird in the middle of the music video.. a woman screaming I think? It only lasted for a few seconds, so it doesn't matter too much. The only other thing I disliked was that after a few listens I think this song could get a bit boring, but it's good the first time.

Liked: Not a lot, but the synthesiser in the track was done well and not over produced.

Disliked: I cannot stand music like this. It doesn't do anything for me and I find her voice pretty annoying and juvenile. I'm not a fan of music that plays into "beautifulness" and cloud cuckoo moments. It's pretencious and unwelcome. The woman has talent but she needs to apply it to a different style of music.

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?

Grade: A-

Liked: The synths in the track that make the track seem so much ahead of its time. And the nice rock tune. A very good piece of 60s stuff. Great to listen to, considering I'm not crazy about that era in music.

Disliked: The tempo's a little off and the lyrics aren't extremely inspired. Otherwise, it's actually pretty damn good. I was struggling to find things for this.

Emmon - Distance. I think that's the only video and I don't see why it would be, considering it's been posted on an international blog, but you can try and search. If you do click this... :alienblush:
