Your perfect day...

An Officer

Vice Admiral
Admiral
If you could have a single day to do whatever you wanted, a fantasy day, how would you spend that time?

I'll go first. I'd start the day with breakfast in bed, Millie's dark choc chip cookies and tea, then I'd shower, doll myself up a bit, get dressed, and go for an unhurried stroll through the city, stopping for hot/cold drinks along the way, and snapping things of interest.

I'd want to stop somewhere scenic for a fresh and healthy lunch, probably my favourite Thai restaurant in South Kensington.

I'd spend the afternoon shopping for a new pair of jeans - to me that's fun, not work, and you can never have too many of those. :D

Then I'd be home in time for dinner, watch a Bluray while snuggling with a loved one, and get at least 10 hours sleep that night. :D

You?

You can make it as fancy or as modest as you like, whatever makes you happy! :D

Do the 20 mile Lake Solitude hike in the Grand Tetons again. Preferably without the naked hiker with his cock flapping in the breeze this time though.

I think my perfect day would be to wake up in 5 star hotel, with free room service breakfast---French toast, strawberries and orange juice--take a long hot shower, and then jump into a limo for a short ride over to Disneyland. There, my nephew, my husband and I would ride all the rides with hardly any lines at all, do some shopping, take lots of silly pictures, & watch the fireworks. Then, when the park closes, catch the limo back to our hotel, enjoy a fancy meal and then soak in a hot tub before finally going to bed.

Rent an airplane, and fly with GF to a small airstrip by the shore. Then rent a motorboat and motor across to an island beach. Spend the rest of the day in the surf and sun, then reverse the journey.

I'd rather get hit by the bus. But that's why everyone gets to pick for themselves.

Let's see. I wake up next to Surya Bonaly in a small rustic cabin in New Hampshire in mid Summer. We go out for a big country breakfast that includes bacon, eggs, pancakes, home fries, corned beef hash, toast, orange juice and tea. Then we make the rounds of the Polar Caves and the Flume and the Basin, where I get some great pictures. We grab some cheeseburgers, fries and Pepsi for lunch. Then we go back and spend some time on the lake that I forgot to tell you is near the cabin. We go out on the rowboat for the afternoon and explore the picturesque little islands that I forgot to tell you are on the lake, and I get some more great pictures. Then we grab some Chinese take out for dinner and watch a couple of great DVDs, like Casablanca and Forbidden Planet. As the sun sets and the night sounds of the forest begin to rise, we call it an early night. Sigh.

Saturday at Burning Man. The day of anticipation before it the big fire. The spectacle of the titular event and then the party afterwards.

Exactly. I'd rather chew a roll of tin foil then spend one more minute of my life at Disney. But then others probably wouldn't like my perfect day either. ;)

My absolutely perfect day would involve a transporter, since distances around the globe would be a problem . And given that unreality, I'll go with my best try at a reality-based perfect day. Or at least close-to-reality based perfect day.

I would wake up in a comfortable, friendly B&B in Florence, Italy, where I would have 9 am reservations at the Accademia, which would actually open on time (hey...you said it was a FANTASY, right? ). I would wander around this museum, which is one of my favorites (love David!)...and then I would walk over to the Uffizi, where there would be NO LINE, and visit some of the highlights there again. I would then get some fabulous gelato at a place I love and wander back to the B&B, where I would shower and get ready for my limo ride to Pistoia (about 30 km from Florence) where Pearl Jam would be playing a concert on the square...which is one of the most beautiful venues I've ever seen video of them playing.

Most beautiful venue ever:

The weather would be perfect - not too hot, not too cold...and no rain.

Of course, they would play all of my favorite songs, and since I would have backstage passes to this concert, would get to hang out and have dinner (fabulous Italian seafood) and drinks afterward with the band and crew.

Hey...if you are gonna have a perfect day fantasy, think BIG, is what I say! :techman:

Well, it sounds to me like you just need to learn to put some clothes on when you're hiking.

For me:

Be awakened with the sunrise by my labs. Realize/remember that I'm in a cabin in the woods on a lake with no one else anywhere close. Make some coffee to take with me on a nice long walk through the woods and around the lake with my "boys". Spend the rest of the day reading and maybe writing a little, but mostly just hangin' with my boys and watching the lake. I nice boat trip out on the water wouldn't suck. For dinner, grill up a nice steak, medium rare, with sauteed mushrooms (maybe from my walk in the woods) and a really, REALLY good bottle of wine, followed by a good cigar and a glass of a nice mellow smokey single malt scotch next to a fire. After that day, I could die and not regret a thing.

As you can tell, it doesn't take a whole lot to make me happy.

^ It's the simple things in life you can't beat, right? :D My perfect day is actually my perfect day - I would choose it over almost anything. :)

Having said that, I'll probably choose a similar but different fantasy tomorrow. :D

^ Well, I think one's idea of a 'perfect day' is probably influenced by their current circumstances as well.

I mean, having been unemployed for several months, I have had more than my share of 'lazy days sitting around reading great novels by myself, just me and the dogs'. It's about the only thing I can afford to do...so I've done a lot of it....and it no longer holds one OUNCE of appeal.

Right now, my fantasy would involve money and a locale which would require me to use my passport. Both of which I have not been able to do for some time.

It's all in your perspective, isn't it?

Don't knock Disneyland. Disneyland is awesome.

Having never been to Disneyland, count me among those for whom it would be a pretty epic day. Sometimes, the great unwashed have it right! :p :D  :)

PKTrekGirl, you're right, some things do get old, and some never do, depends on your personality and outlook, and to what extent you love and appreciate the thing/event in the first place. My perfect day is seriously old, but I love it still, and probably will for a long time to come!

Fancy places are cool and everything, but sometimes, there's no place like home.

Interesting tangent though, need to get me some shut eye, definitely more tomorrow!

You are absolutely right. I've been in your spot, myself, and know exactly what you mean. On the other hand, my life right now is incredibly hectic, both at work and home, and rarely affords me an opportunity to just relax, much less read (or write.) In truth, I hadn't even really thought of it that way until you pointed it out. I guess, as the old saying goes, the grass really IS greener .... ;)

A good point, I'm always forgetting something.

I was surprised how well appended this gentleman was given the fact that it was a bit chilly on them mountain that day.

well, a perfect day must start not at 4 am as my usual days when I go to work, but a lot later...let's say 8am, breakfast with tea and biscuits, a bit of gardening out, with the cat, afternoon 4 hour book reading under the lemon tree, while listening to the water of my fishpool, and in the evening after taking pics of the sunset, pizza with friends in the countryside
simple as that :)

Ha. Yep! And I have been in your current situation as well...and remember thinking "Heaven would be one full day of peace and quiet, with no one needing a piece of me for ANYTHING, so I could read, putz around the house, and do a whole lot of nothing!"

But when you've been doing a whole lot of nothing for upwards of a year, you are DEFINITELY looking for some action and excitement!
