The Return of a McCoy villain? *possible spoilers*

The Curse of Fenric... I haven't watched any more 7th Doctor stories because I so disliked the disjointed mess that was the Curse of Fenric. I made myself finish it so I could say I'd seen at least one whole serial of each Doctor.

The Curse of Fenric is awesome. One of my all time top 5 stories. Say what you like about McCoy, but I'm not sure how many other Doctors could have refered to their companion as an emotional cripple and have you genuinely believe they mean it!

Oh, she was 16.

Ace was good at repressing it all and functioning normally.

Just like everyone else.

It was the Doctor who was poking at her buried foibles with 20th century psychotherapy.

One said some awful things about Ian when he couldn't get his own way.

Two and Zoe had to run circles around the truth in the Krotons not to call Jamie a moron.

Joe Grant was a pet. This is so the truth because Liz Shaw had too much dignity to be exactly the same pet that Jo bought into with relish.

4 called Harry a halfwit(As a ruse, but you could see it wasn't a new thought.).

5 treated Adrik like he was 5 years old, and considering his hissy fits, rightly so.

The first moment 6 saw Peri, he stuck his fingers around her throat and tried to save us from her.

And back to Seven, who let his "first companion" bog off with a white slaver to be sold as food.

Doctor Who is not a nice person.

I dunno, I'll take everyones word that Fenric was awesome, and it was certainly better than most of McCoys stories, but I never cared much for it. I suppose it was just too unrelentingly grim for my tastes.

Well I like vampires, and I love The Fog, which this shamelessly lifts a lot from. Plus the WW2 setting and the desolate nature of the setting I find really evocative. There are a few misteps, Ace's 'seduction' of the guard is pretty surreal, and some of the monster effects are slightly ropey, but overall this is a very adult story full of undercurrents ;)

Aw hell you've made me want to watch it again now!

i watched it agian recently as it was one of the McCoy stories i have dim memories of as a kid, and i didn't understand it much better now than then.

it was alright for having Mc and Al in, and a sopping wet Sophie Aldred, as well as her in a faux 40s clothes and hairstyle, but other than that...
