Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Yeah, I remember that reaction to the first pic of Brandon as Supes. I remember being pretty underwhelmed by it myself but I was so excited about Returns that I forced myself to keep an open mind. The picture of Cavill though... I don't have to force myself. It looks right.

By the way is it just me or does Henry Cavill have a George Reeves mien to him? Not the costume so much but... the look. It screams Adventures of Superman to me. That ain't a complaint by the way. :)

I still think he looks like Tom Welling. But whatever else you may say about Welling's performance, he looked the part, so that doesn't bother me.

Not sure if this has been discussed already, but I'm not keen on Russell Crowe as Jor-El. I think he's a top actor, but I guess it's just strange casting. As Jor-El has a British accent (per Brando in the Reeve films) why not get a British actor to play the part? Sir Patrick Stewart as Jor-El? lol... well worse could be done. I guess the roles of Picard and Brando's Jor-El are similar in some sense. Both characters were stoical, wise, etc.

^ Who says Jor-El has to be British? George Lazenby played Jor-El (sort of) in the Superboy TV series and he was an Aussie, just like Crowe.

This is a reboot. There's no reason why they have to mimic or replicate the Donnerverse. There's a black Perry White and an American General Zod too.

Besides, nitpicking about his wandering regional accent in Robin Hood aside, Crowe is fairly adept at doing a 'generic' British accent - A Good Year, Gladiator, etc. I mean, Brando was American, you know?! He was also just doing a non-specific British accent, not speaking in his own one.

As for Patrick Stewart, I think he's too closely identified with Prof X to play another comic-book character.

That was British accent?

Since he's supposed to be Kryptonian anyway, I'm not sure why he needs a British accent--especially in a brand-new reboot that has nothing to do with the old Chris Reeve movie?

^ Exactly. We have discussed Russell Crowe's casting and mostly everyone thought it was pretty cool if a bit out of the box which would conform with most of the casting in this movie already. Brando was not doing a British accent, as others have stated he was being himself!
