The cape actually looks a lot like Dean Cain's to me.

Is this being filmed in 3D or converted?

Neither I believe. At least I haven't read anything about it being shot in 3D.

Eh. The guy doesn't look right to me. I don't have any particular problem with the costume, even if the 'scales' effect is a bit odd. He ain't Aquaman! :rommie:

So what is that material and why is it being used in so many films? I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that something similar was used for the Trek 2009 uniforms, and it certainly looks like the same stuff they're using for Spider-man. So is this a new fabric that is sweeping Hollywood costume designers, a design fad, or am I being over-sensitive?

Regarding the Superman costume, I'd say the "scales" are too dramatic. He looks more like Aquaman done like that. I also agree the texture shouldn't extend to his shield. It shouldn't cover his boots, either.

Caville looks good in the role, if a little heavy on the Italian side, but then I hear Lawrence Fishburne is playing some white guy, soo ... [whistles innocently]

I find the image slightly disappointing, but the new look isn't what would keep me from seeing the film.

The material used for Trek 2009 and for Superman Returns was simply jumbo Spandex with tiny emblems printed on to it.

The material being used for Spider-Man - and, apparently, a variant of it here - is entirely different. The "texture" is actually three dimensional embossing of some kind.

No, but he is playing a guy named White.

Lots to like on this design but I do agree the dimpled/scale design should not extend to the shield itself.
It does look like Warners has taken some cues from Marvel films. The suit material, as noted, bears resemblance to the costume for AMS and the cape, especially where it anchors in at the shoulder bear resemblance to Thor's.
Don't get the complaints about the hair, looks fine enough. I think the AICN boards just love to moan about anything and everything.

Now, lets see what it looks like in motion.
Perhaps we'll get a late fall, December teaser in front of say MI:4 or Sherlock Holmes.

I do hope it's not being shot in 3-D.

I see some people want to let their inner douche hang out a bit longer.

The texture is fairly pronounced, but I'm not really getting an Aquaman or Thor feel from it. It's just... a texture. A little extra detail so it doesn't look like he's wearing tights or a wetsuit.

And with that big, broad S, I can see how they had to carry the texture over onto that as well. Otherwise it would have just been a flat rubbery-looking S on his chest.

Costume looks way too rubbery, and the colors are too dark, yet again. I love the golden age S, from what I can see of it.

Sure they could have gone a little lighter but do you think a suit as bright as the one Christopher Reeve wore would look good today?

The textured look with the cape attached to the shoulders mostly resembles Thor

I don't like the raised "S" and the scaly effect on the suit which itself looks too plastic. The cape isn't bad.

I have no problem with the suit, I think it looks pretty great, overall. The only problem I have with it, is that I'm kinda' baffled by the size of the cape. However, that's not enough for me to not like it, and I'm not gonna' judge a suit until I see it in motion in the movie itself.

The one thing I do have a problem with, though? It's not the suit, it's Cavill. Or at least how he's being "directed" to look. See, the thing is...he kinda' looks like a douche bag.

Not really seeing that. He just looks grim and serious to me-- basically the standard Jim Lee Superman expression.
