Home Decor Query....

What is a good neutral color to buy bed sheets in? My current sheets are rapidly approaching the end of their useful life, and I've realized that black isn't the best color for bedding.

I bought some tan/light brown sheets and they go with pretty much everything. I have a lot of purple and white in my room and it matches well with that. Also looks good with blue, black, orange, red, green, pink...might not look good with yellow but that's about it.

Yeah I'd say taupe, tan, that sort of thing. We've had some sheets like that and they have gone with many different color schemes.

Fluorescent lime green. Statistically speaking, you will get laid 67.2% more often.

What color are the walls? How about pinstripes or a subtle plaid? Or buy two sets in different colors and mix/match?

Go to Ross or Homegoods or Costco and get good sheets at a lower cost than Macy's or Penneys.

The color that will work best depends on what color your walls and furniture are. That being said, a cream, tan, or white set will go with anything. Also, thread count really doesn't mean a lot. make sure you feel how soft the sheets are when you shop.

Before you go shopping, measure the thickness of your mattress. Some fitted sheets will not fit today's taller mattresses.

Also, besides the places propita mentions, try an outlet mall if there is one near you.

Cream will work. Although, get yourself some color! Go for a bright red or a blue!

And thread count... 1500 count Egyptian cotton is WONDERFUL! We also have a set made for the Biltmore Hotel (sold at Tuesday Morning) in 2000 thread count. It's like being an angel and sleeping on a fluffy cloud!

White sheets show ALL dirt, stains, sweat, etc. They need to be washed more often because of this, something which may or may not be done if the only set.

^That's why I like the ivory or cream colors better. Or the blue-gray and navy ones. It hides stains better and adds a little color to the bedding.

Mix/match a print with a solid of one of the colors in the print.

(I watch a lot of HGTV) ;)
