Q and Guinan

What other El-Aurians seem to lack it? Martus on DS9 had it, Soran had it (granted he also had a brush with the nexus...).

Martus on DS9 had it...
Did he? My memory is foggy. I don't remember him displaying the kind of abilities we saw in Guinan. The idea that this hightened sense came from the nexus is still a good one though and could still apply to Picard if someone wanted it to.

Q just might be Guinan.

Q is mischievous, but he is a helper character. Yes, he gets them into trouble, but he also leaves breadcrumbs to get them out. Guinan is also a helper character. She does not cause trouble, but serves as a straightforward advisor. Since they perform the same function, they could be different faces of the same being.

When Q tells Picard not to trust her, he might be smiling to himself, knowing that this is all the reason Picard will need to give Guinan's advice full consideration.

It is an interesting idea, and it's certainly possible Martus encountered the nexus as well, but I don't think the nexus was intended to be the origins of the El-Aurians, or Guinan's, unique talents.

Martus had a gift for listening and making people trust him, he just used it in a less moral manner than Guinan.
