RIP Amy Winehouse

Drugged up smackhead. She's been that way for years. This will sound harsh but I've no sympathy.

So Amy Winehouse vs 92 (so far) Norwegians?
What's the betting on who gets the most column inches? Which one gets the front page tomorrow?

I think it's fairly obvious who will 'win', and it makes me sick

So sad that she died so young, and couldn't overcome her addiction problems. My thoughts are with her loved ones.

27 seems to be the magic age for musician deaths. Cobain, Joplin, Morrison and now Winehouse. Very sad to see someone lose themselves over drugs.

While I agree with you that Amy will probably get more column inches, and that particular state of affairs definitely shouldn't be...I think there is still room to feel bad about this.

It's true that she made some ill-advised choices...but addiction is also an illness.

Feeling sorry about this tragedy and feeling horrified and sorry about the events in Norway are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Tragedy all around the past couple of days. :(

I didn't listen to her music, but I'm sorry that a talented individual lost her struggle with addiction. It happens all too often in the music community.

RIP Amy.....

Least surprising news of the year.

Still, a shame. She was very talented. I loved her voice.

I agree with everything PK said.

I hate it when people say "another worthless junkie gone, who cares". They had families and friends who did care, and tried to help. Addiction is cruel. Some can't beat it. And for whatever reason, Amy Winehouse either gave up or never tried. Who knows what was really going on in her brain?

This was a slow-motion tragedy that was probably inevitable. A tragedy nonetheless, though. It's always tragic when someone loses their life to addiction.

Well, this is shaping up to be as heartwarming as the "let's kill the mentally ill teenager" thread.

Drugged up smackhead.

This. An awful lot of people die daily, and the tragedy in Norway is foremost in everyones thoughts. Some 27 year old whore suffocates because her crack habit rotted her lungs? big deal.

Good grief, how cold-hearted this is! Yes, people die daily. It's not a competition! It's possible to be sad about multiple tragedies.

Count me among those who don't care. Another person blessed with talent that thought it was a license to act like a dumbass.

See, this is I think where the crucial divide is. It's one thing 'not to care.' It's another thing entirely to be blathering on about how "it's no big loss" or "she deserved it."

I have no (major) problem with people being apathetic; I just don't care for the judgmental people who seem to think drug addicts deserve to die.

What a talented woman, a rare case of a jazz singer breaking into the big time in this day and age. Despite her erratic personal life and issues with drugs and alcohol, she was a popular public figure and an inspiration to many young people looking to break into the music industry. Its a real shame.
