Star Wars deleted scenes

Whofan

Fleet Captain
From a preview for the blu-ray set

Pretty cool. The first scene is one we've seen before (At the last SDCC?), of Luke finishing his lightsaber in a Tatooine cave from ROTJ.

Next up is Luke spotting the battle above Tatooine from the original. Another mute take of this scene in monochrome was shown on the old Behind the Magic CD-Rom.

More ROTJ material: I think the Mon Calamari is suppossed to be a B-wing pilot.

Then the sandstorm scene. Interesting it looks like there's a Y-wing there. Interesting also because Leia used to fly a Y-wing in the Marvel comic series and Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Looks like they just left it behind on Tatooine, though!

Then there's a shot of the deleted Wampa rampage from ESB. The suit looks clunky even from far away.

Next up is some more of the bunker battle from ROTJ, with Han and co. inside the bunker battling Stormtroopers.

Finally we have Luke pressing his damaged hand (To summon his X-wing?) and wandering off into the desert for some reason from the sandstorm scene.

Looks cool IMO.

They don't have the long exposition scene with Biggs? I think the scene is kinda pointless, but it does reveal lots of things about the Star Wars universe and makes the character more significant in the Death Star battle.

Not sure. He was kind of doing what he did with the Indiana Jones set, release the movies and putting some documentaries on a fourth disc. Hopefully, should Indiana Jones have a blu-ray release at some point (Hoping that they might announce it at SDCC or at least hint at it) that'll have the deleted scenes from those films.

However, he did include deleted scenes for the prequel DVDs (I presume they'll be on the blu-ray set too. Hopefully not just the same ones from the previous releases.)

Does anyone know why the fantastic "Empire of Dreams" documentary has completely disappeared from post-2004 home video releases?

I've seen it on TV a few times, but yeah, it's kind of weird that it vanished.

As for I grok Spock's question, there are quite a few deleted scenes from the prequels that were not included in the sets. Here's the wiki which includes a look at the deleted material from the saga:

So, why didn't he release this stuff before now, like when the DVD set came out in 2004?

Lucas probably held it back for a future release that could be in HD.

I'm sure there's tons more material that he can bleed dry from fans with future releases

3D releases of all 6 movies anyone?

Not sure, but if you're looking for a copy, all the used DVD shops around me are starting to have stacks and stacks of the 2004 boxset, and pretty cheap (like $15) for the box. I've even seen the single disc of the documentary sold on it's own.

It also showed Luke's small group of friends on Tatooine, what they think about him, and a brief glimpse of life in the town of Anchorhead, IIRC...

Also, that Luke's uncle was a bit of a badass. Biggs mentions that "your uncle could hold off a whole colony of Sand People with one blaster." ;)

I'm really excited about this. Can't wait for the BD release now knowing that there's Star Wars stuff in there that I've never seen despite having gobbled up everything related to it since 1983...

Nice try George, but I'm still not going to buy your shitty Blu-rays. Not until you do a proper transfer of the original unaltered trilogy. No half-assed laserdisc transfers. No screwed up blue colouring over the films.
