Look at it this way. South Sudan recently, and legally, seceded from Sudan. The Sudanese government abided by the decision and recognized South Sudan as an independent country. Other countries, such as Germany, also recognized South Sudan, so there is now a new, legal country in the world.

That didn't happen in the Confederacy.

You said it was okay since the Confederacy claimed that land as their own, so surely you think it's okay for me to annex your land as my own.
