iPad compulsory at school

Faster my ass...
It is significantly faster. Your properly trained Victorian pansy scrivener could write (quite legibly) between 60-80wpm. That's about the pace the Constitution was written at, which is beautiful and easy to read. That's also faster than most people type.

Well, that isn't the way it works out a lot of the time. On those rare occasions when I've been required to write a large amount of text by hand, I find I get about the same speed either way (and, due to more extensive practice, script may even be slightly faster since it doesn't require as much active thought).
But you were probably never properly trained to do it.

US schools teach the letter forms changed in the 60s (50s?). The forms and strokes were slightly altered to ensure learning the letters in favor of functionality and practicality.

Also, these days most schools only focus on handwriting for one or two grade levels and completely abandon it afterwards. And in that time, no one is ever taught how to properly hold a pen. Students are also encouraged to use pencils. Pencils (especially graphite and mechanical) lack the fluidity needed to properly hand write. This causes unnatural pauses that get imprinted on muscle memory for life.

Handwriting is very meticulous and can really only be learned by rote over a period of many years. And therein lies its value as a learning tool: it promotes focus and discipline, something modern youths seem to lack.

When I was at school we had handwriting lessons. We learnt cord cursive. The lessons were tedious and it was a subject I was not very good at. Today my handwriting is a mixture of cursive and printing.

^ That is very clear writing. Much clearer than my own cursive, which is an illegible scrawl.

Then again, I am the child of a doctor, so I inherited my dad's style of writing (it is a fact that doctors cannot write clearly  ).

My handwriting was always compared to my sister's when I was growing up - by my mother and teachers both. My sister has calligraphy-like handwriting, it is beautiful. She always insists that my handwriting is an untidy scrawl.

I was thinking reading this thread that Doctors have the worst handwriting ever. How Pharmacists can read it I will have no idea.

I don't suppose you're left-handed by any chance? Because I am, and my scrawl looks about the same as yours.

I'll be curious to know what my handwriting says about me other than "writes very poorly."

Your handwriting basically tells us that you're like the guys at the end of "Primer" who can't write like a fucking normal person.

What?!
I know, I'm a scientist!

If I had a functional scanner (well, the scanner works just fine, but for some reason it doesn't actually like to upload what it scanned), you would see that I have beautiful handwriting.

Nah, I'm a plain old boring righty.

Holy shit! You know too much!
