Buying a new computer

Got the Compaq. Almost everything's installed and running great, but, to my dismay, I learned that Windows 7 doesn't support my printer, an HP Laserjet 1012. I got a helpful link to buy a new printer, though.

I read through a few support threads, the most disenheartening of which was from Oct 2009, which said that HP would be released Windows 7 drivers "soon."

Thanks for the tip. I got it downloaded but when I went to install it got stuck at "New printer detected...please wait."

I"m going to sleep on this for a while. Thanks for you help, though.

I've had better luck with the Win7 network driver for my HP printer than the HP driver.

And my printer is maybe 4 years old.

I tried the 3055 driver again, but when I go to print, nothing happens. When I go to troubleshoot, it says that there's an unfinished print job blocking the queue. I cancel the print job, go to print, and end up in the same place.

I tried the generic printer driver, but that did the same thing.

I read this article, which was helpful, but I'm still in the same position.

If I can't get this figured out, I'm going to spend $60 on a new printer (NOT an HP) that will be an improvement over the 1012. It'd be nice to print photos, anyway.

Sorry about that, Shatnertage. It works for some people, and I was hoping it would work for you, too. I have an HP printer and Windows 7 but my printer works without a hitch. It's an HP Photosmart C4440, which is about 3 years old.

Now, if you get a new printer and you don't want HP, take a look at the new Kodak printers, or even Canon. Whatever you do, don't buy Lexmark, or you'll be paying out the wazoo for ink every month.

^ Thanks for the recc. I've owned a few Lexmarks over the years, and I'm definitely staying away from those. And HP, just on principal. I was looking at a Canon wireless that would let me print photos from my phone, which I'm sure my offline relatives would love.
