Are you excited about the Harry Potter release this weekend?

(Not in 3D, though. Transformers 3 was the last chance 3D had to impress me and it failed.).

I'm going to watch Transformers 3 this Sunday with a co-worker friend of mine. Sadly we'll have to watch the German dub () version since she has to work on the only day in the week they're showing the original version. Blergh. But I digress...

I'm actually pretty curious to see it in 3D and whether it's any better and/or noticeable than The Green Hornet's half-assed 3D effects.

There were a couple of 3D moments that were impressive – the opening battle on Cybertron was very Star Wars, and some of the Driller stuff looked great – but I didn't think it looked any batter than the 3D converted Captain America trailer that preceded it. And of the three 3D movies I've seen (Avatar, Tron, and the aforementioned), I had the hardest time bringing the effect into focus on Transformers. Ebert's complaints about a muddy, fuzzy image still hold true.

So. Freaking. EXCITED!!!

I've been going to Harry Potter midnight showings since Prisoner of Azkaban, so this will be my sixth of eight HP movies to see at midnight.

We're going early (like pre-noon) to the theater on Thursday to hang out and if luck is on our side, START the line! We'll be in costume, too. We bought tix for a double-feature of DH Part 1 at 9pm and then Part 2 at midnight.

Last year, the theater had their lobby all done up to look like Diagon Alley. It was amazing.

Kinda mad, though, 'cause I didn't know until today that people who see DH2 in 3D at midnight will get HP glasses-shaped 3D glasses "while supplies last." I want some!!!

Absolutely eager to see this! In part, because it will be a family event with all of us going to see it at the midnight premiere with other friends. I get such a kick out of the social nature of the midnight premiere, though I know full well I will be paying for it later on Friday. It's been a fun, entertaining and enjoyable ride with all of the books and films, with a bit of poignancy thrown in. You see the actors growing up onscreen, all while watching your own kids grow along with them....

No. Never cared for the series. Tried reading the first book, Couldn't get past the 4th page. Tried watching the movies, but they just bore me. Fantasy is just not my thing.

Me and the misses were planning on watching it at the midnight showing but as we both have a busy day on Friday, we thought we'd see it Friday evening, but now I am busy in the evening and supervising a trip down to the beach at Weymouth on Saturday. So now, we'll either watch it on Saturday evening or during the day on Sunday with my youngest brother and Mum. Either way, I am going to watch it at somepoint over the weekend.

I hope all the Potter fans get exactly what it is they want out of the series. I have several good friends going. I've just never gotten into the series. One day I'll play catch up but the series started about a 10yr old boy and those aren't movies I go to. Now that they are older I'm sure I'd like 'em more but I have to sit through that backstory. My friends tell me the first two or three movies while decent aren't anything compared to the last few.

But hey, I hope they all go 2-3 times this weekend so it does as little damage as possible to the movie I do care about, Captain America the following weekend!!!

The first two movies are way better in hindsight once you know more about how the series unfolds. The second movie in particular, which has always been my least favorite, actually turned out to be very important to the story and is way more interesting than I ever realized.

Yea, the books also, it's hard to recognize the worthiness of reading the first 2, until after you've read the 3rd and see how the story has all that foreshadowing. The 3rd is where the story starts to change and become more adult, even though the kids are still 3rd year students (IE: 13/14), but, you see quite a bit of what was set up in the first two books coming out in the open.

One cool thing about the first two movies, is you're seeing the movie through Harry Potter's naive eyes, all the bright colors, magic everywhere front and center. In the third movie, as the series starts growing darker, and Harry Potter is more acclimated to the Wizarding world, you see the colors toned down, you see the years of damage to the walls of the school, the magic is not on display so much, so, it's like you're growing up in the Wizarding world as well. And of course, it all grows from there with each passing book/movie

That is definitely my favorite thing about the series. You really are getting to watch these kids grow up and change as their situation gets more and more dire.

Yeah no. I think the word you're looking for is "Sith".

I have seen none of them in the theater so far, so I don't think this one will be any different.

I'm excited, mostly because this is the finale of a once-in-a-lifetime cultural event. The first book came out in 1998. I have very fond memories of my kids discovering the books, attending midnight launch parties at the bookstore, signing contracts that promised we wouldn't circulate the latest title before the official release date, watching my son win a Harry Potter trivia contest...

I was not that much a fan of the books (only read the first one), and I saw all the movies but am not all that taken with them (except the one with the griffin), but I will be excited to be among the crowds watching the end of an era.

Give me LOTR or GOT any day over HP drivel. Heck, even a film adaptation of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant would be more interesting...

I assume you have formed this opinion after reading the books and/or watching the Harry Potter movies.
