I've been saying for years they should fit ejector seats to cars. Nobody ever listens to me.

I was suckered by a noob. My head is hanging.
Poor guy.

I believe that every car needs a kill switch just like a motorcycle.

Almost all do... it's called a key..

Toyota has an optional feature you can get, in which the car senses when its key is in proximity (to unlock the doors) or within it (to allow the engine to start). Starting the engine is then a button-press; the actual key doesn't need to be inserted into a slot.

Now thats a first grade fuckup. Something is fishy about this one. If such a severe fault happened, the ECU should've automatically deactivated the cruise control. besides, the CC is wired into the brakes, handbrake, gearbox and clutch (this one was apparently an automatic but whatever.)

now i can believe that it got stuck in 60mph. but that nothing could deactivate the CC, thats a hard one. I've seen some crazy electrical faults, but this is simply impossible. the failsafes are there for a reason...

EDIT: unless the car had water damage. then pretty much anything can happen.

Which is the stupidest thing you can do if you lose control of the car; as turning the car off would cause you to lose more control of it. Turning the car off would result in the loss of the power-steering, power brakes and more importantly it'd possibly cause the steering wheel to lock.

So, yeah, go ahead and turn your car off should you lose control of it.

Did he get a ticket for driving at 80mph?

Glad he turned out to be okay. That's some scary shit.

I had a car once where you could even remove the key while the engine was running. Ironically, it was also a Ford. Apparently some idiot american tried starting it with a screwdriver and damaged the ignition lock. It ran fine for years however. At least until the rust caught up with it. It was too much work so i never fixed it. I loved that car though.. RIP.

Many cars have that now.

My old car did that towards the end of its life, you could remove the key while the engine was running, had no impact on the car or it's operation, though, and you still needed the key to turn it on, and when turning it off without the key you could turn the car back on so long as you didn't turn it off past the Accessory position.

This is impossible with modern cars however. The immobilizer would kick in and kill the engine the moment it didn't read the code.

If was fun to play around with. Luckily the car had no steering well lock so it didn't really matter. I even gave the key to the starter once, right before a drag race. She looked at me quite strangely. But the look on her face once I took off and actually won was priceless.
