That Hitler spoof was awesome - my sentiments exactly. I'm still upset even though I knew how it was going to play out. Sean Bean had been so great as Ned Stark and I think it would also be hard for him to find another role so perfect for him. It's just such a waste.

Sean Bean has done really well for himself. I wouldn't worry about him finding work.

Besides, if a nobody had played Stark, I don't think there would be quite the impact.

They really wanted us to CARE about Stark to make that moment really really work. Putting Sean Bean in that role was PERFECT. Most of the audience never suspected--TV doesn't kill off the main character, unless the actor has left after a contract dispute, so why would they suspect it?

Very smart on the part of the producers.

Well, the book worked the same way. You LIKED him, he was one of the main characters, and the only one really trying to do the right thing. Things were going badly, then looked like he would at least get out and into exile, and then... not so much.

Not only is Syrio Forel dead, it's a pretty great death scene. Don't see what more anyone would want.

The first season covered a A Game of Thrones, the first novel. Most of that novel's been covered in the past nine episodes, and the post-Stark death stuff should be covered in episode ten.

Judging from current releases - casting sheets, GRRM blogging, etc. - it seems the second season will be straight up the second book, A Clash of Kings.

That's what I thought, and thus I've been wondering if they'll call the second season A Clash of Kings or not?

And if they give us one book a season, then they're going to be done with the existing books [counting the new one in July just as the sixth one is coming out... So they'll have to wait 2+ years to do the seventh book if the Old Gods grant us GRRM that long.

There are only two books left after A Dance with Dragons, and now that GRRM's past the whole mess that AFFC/ADWD created, I don't think they will take as long as the last two did.

I thought it would have been cool to see the epic battle scenes with Arya coming in the end and fighting herself.
side note: Do we know if Arya's sword teacher got killed?

I dont think a 12 year old girl armed with a small sword could pull that off. Especially on this show. This story doesn't take the usual turns. The normal beats of heroic fiction will not be followed. (consider your self warned )

Nope. It'll be Game of Thrones, season two.

To put this another way, Game of Thrones is the name of the TV adaption of A Song of Ice and Fire.

And if they give us one book a season,

'If' is a good word here.

GRRM is on record suggesting book three, A Storm of Swords, be two seasons rather than one. It's significantly larger than the first two books so that's not an unreasonable suggestion. They could go for one season, of course, who knows.

And the way A Feast for Crows and A Dance of Dragons is structured*, they'll almost certainly be involved in composite season(s), assuming the show gets that far.

*The books are structured around first person perspectives, as you might have noticed. A Feast for Crows opts to tell a book's worth of half of the perspective characters - with A Dance of Dragons telling the other half.
