The problem with that scene is that the Jedi wanting to spy on Palps represents them finally getting a clue at long last. I didn't notice or care about the moral dimensions, if any, of the situation. All such thoughts were evicted by the relief and even joy that I felt that this story finally was allowing the good guys to do something other than stand around looking like total idiots. It's demoralizing to be forced to root for idiots.
But Anakin, bless his heart, firmly refuses to be budged from chump-hood. Not sure that's the kind of principled stand I can get behind.
The moral superiority of the Jedi was destroyed when they decided to go ahead and clone sentient beings as cannon fodder to defend a Republic so corrupt, it apparently was incapable of inspiring its citizens to volunteer to defend it. Obviously, whatever moral code they're operating under is so foreign to my understanding of such things that no plotline that hinges on morality will make any sense. I would have been satisfied to see the Jedi simply acting smarter.
