Saw a tweet from TrekMovie last night about it. And it was confirmed via the StarTrek.com Facebook page this mornin' that today is, in fact, Captain Picard Day!

He's a role model!

Captain Picard Day is celebrated on June 16th because it is the equivalent date to Stardate 47457.1, mentioned in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode entitled The Pegasus.

Except there's no canon reason to think that 47000.0 falls on January 1st at 00:01 and 47999.9 falls on December 31st at 23:59 and that days are rather evenly spaced between. In fact, based on First Contact Day on VOY, that is certainly not the case. Specifically, that April-5th holiday was celebrated on Stardate 54868.6.

The episode "The Pegasus" first aired on January 10th 1994, if any day should be Captain Picard Day, it's January 10th.

The chronology books issued by the Okudas in the 90s seemed to assume indeed...

... that 47000.0 falls on January 1st at 00:01 and 47999.9 falls on December 31st at 23:59...
I believe it's easier to accept this, especially since it works so well in many chronology issues, and consider the Voyager episode to be in error. It wouldn't be the only mistake they ever made.

So, for all it's worth - I apparently have missed Captain Picard Day. I hate it when that happens.

The Star Trek Chronology has been superseded by many times over the years by later canon, and this is no different. The date and circumstances for Cochrane's warp flight, for example, has been supplanted. Speculative information in the books aren't canon, like it or not. VOY is, like it or not.

Is it any easier to accept that the Borg, Dominion, and other baddies always save December 31st and January 1st for their biggest attacks?

Picard/Sisko/Janeway: "Well, it is December 31st."
Riker/Kira/Chakotay: "I'll order us to red alert."

There's a lot of evidence for and against that particular dating system, nothing conclusive, so I think one can safely choose. I choose to think that June 16 is Captain Picard Day.

Oh, and I don't believe in canon. It's overrated and exists mostly to create disagreement.

My Trek pals and I have always made fun of that...

Picard: "Mr. Worf, cancel party plans."
Riker: "Aww, man!"

Picard/Sisko/Janeway: "Well, it is December 31st."
Riker/Kira/Chakotay::scream: "I'll order us to red alert."[/QUOTE]:rommie::rommie: DECEMBER 31 on the EARTHER CALENDER. Set course for Planet Earth warp 13! LOL Laughing on Line. Super

According to LeVar Burton, June 16 was officially Captain Picard Day. That works for me.

It's interesting he should say that since he was the one who was in the director's chair when "The Pegasus" was being filmed.

The episode "The Pegasus" first aired on January 10th 1994, if any day should be Captain Picard Day, it's January 10th.

It's interesting all this is being said, about Picard Day being on Jan 10 because that's when "The Pegasus" first aired.

I just went and Googled when the ENT finale aired and that episode actually aired on May 13, 2005. HOWEVER, the episode (which is based on "The Pegasus") was FILMED in during the month of Januaury, so yeah... January 10 sounds good to me.

Edit---

My mistake, "These are the Voyages" was actually being made in March. GAAHHHH!

TNG aired in syndication. There was no single air date for an episode nationwide(to say nothing of non-US airings).

June 16 or Jan 10m either way I missed it. Oh well. Was he stuck in a turbolift with children again?

^ Cakemixo, you're not only mixing cake but episodes as well.

Captain Picard Day was in the teaser of The Pegasus, the story with the kids in the turbolift was Disaster.
