I guess I understand the need to see how people react and to see if they're nervous or not. I'm all for good security. But security done right.
The thing is that when you're asked when you were fingerprinted or on any lists, my response in my mind was "what's on the screen you're looking at that I don't know about?" or "are you getting me confused with someone else?".
Of course my response was one of nervousness and wanting to ask "what do you know about that I don't?"
I don't know, it seems like they're trying to get you to lose your temper or find an excuse to hold you up at the border. The last time I went across I was going shopping to a near the border mall. When asked why I was entering the US, I said "to go shopping". The guard's response was "don't you have stores in Canada?".
