BillJ and Devon both seem to have their lives depending on this issue.
But their the one's that said they'd have a script done by Christmas 2009.
Now you're going a little too far. You don't know what kind of arrangement Bad Robot has with Paramount. In fact, one of those other projects was M:I:4, in which J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk have wrapped up, which is also a Paramount Pictures release! So you can take comfort in knowing that the studio is very well aware of what's going on and the writers of the sequel that you're not very interested in seem to be doing fine in Paramount's eyes.Very unprofessional to tell someone that you'll have the work they're paying you for done by a certain date, then blow it off for other projects.![]()
^^Well Bond 23 won't be out until next year, which will have been a 4 year gap between films, but people will still go and see it. True maybe not quite the same as a Sci-Fi film butt the gap is simillar.
People seem to be worried about competing with other films, but Trek did fine against Terminator, Angels + Demons and X-Men.

plus there was the whole Obama==Spock nonsense.
The next movie doesn't have these advantages so it's probably not going to do as well.

Well Terminator, Angels and Demons and X-men were all awful and ST had huge buzz from the mainstream press (Hey Star Trek is back with Kirk and Spock) plus there was the whole Obama==Spock nonsense.

That wasn't exactly a huge factor.

How do you guess?
Terminator, Angels + Demons and X-Men may have been awful but they're still franchises that should draw the money.
People seem to under estimate the fanbase and appeal of Star Trek once again.
Oh and then there is this little independent film called SUPERMAN.
Holiday 2012 sounds like a good idea.

I don't know about Angels and Demons but Terminator and X-men were both huge disappointments. X-men got rebooted with 1st class and Terminator is also going to be rebooted. I haven't heard any movie deals for "Lost Symbol" so A&D may not have done well.
If ST was as strong as you think, it wouldn't need to be rebooted, processed, homogenized and made public friendly. ST is just a brand name now for summer blockbuster franchise but I don't think it's that strong of a brand. First the whole geek wave is dying down. People are becoming less interested in Sci-Fi in general. Second to succeed JJ Abrams had to deliver a movie better than the first. Everything I've seen from him shows that he may get you interested but he can't sustain that interest. Third 2012 is election season and it's probably going to be the ugliest and loudest election in a generation. Fourth one word AVENGERS. Three more words "by Joss Whedon".People seem to under estimate the fanbase and appeal of Star Trek once again.

I think this sequel is going to be just fine, in terms of quality of film, and financial success. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just kidding themselves, especially on the latter issue.
#1 "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" ($112 million)
#2 "The Proposal" ($18.5 million)
#3 "The Hangover" ($17.2 million)
#4 "Up" ($13 million)
#5 "My Sister's Keeper" ($12 million)

Lot's of franchises need a rest and lite reboot, the money Trek made indicates it is still very much alive and popular. Trek just needed a rest, everything that was being produced was garbage (Enterprise, Ins, Nem)...and didn't appeal to the general audience, let alone the fanbase.
Joss Whedon? Has he ever produced anything successful in theaters?

Oh really, I didn't expect that. LOL.
