The WorfxTroi relationship from 2370

Alright...

So from 2363 Troi and Riker started falling in love. According to Season 6's "Second Chances" episode, Riker met Troi at Whatever-name-it-was Falls on her homeplanet of Betazed. Then, after some romance, if I'm not mistaken, they just became friends.

Then, in 2370 Worf became Troi's next imzadi which got heavy focus in Season 7's "Eye of the Beholder". Well, they were a couple the entire year.

In 2371 (Star Trek Generations) there was no evidence of Troi being in love with Worf at all.

How come the WorfxTroi relationship died down after 2370??? And the RikerxTroi stuff came back in the movies??? I like Troi with Worf better.

I only wish that Worf and Troi got married and had kids in the regular reality as they did in "Parallels". She and Worf made a cute couple. I wish she married Worf in the beingging of Nemesis instead of Riker.

Limited plot time and lack of interest from the writers.

I prefer the Riker romance, seems to just bring the series full circle, and it just feels illogical to have the "emotion" senser/psychologist with the alien on Enterprise who likes to share them the least.

RAMA

In Generations, we really see no indication of whether or not the Worf/Troi romance is still on. It may very well have been. Everything is still pretty much status quo on the Enterprise-D at the start of that film.

But by First Contact, Worf had become a main cast member on DS9, and was also still appearing in the TNG movies. Keeping a relationship going between him and Troi under those circumstances would have been tricky for the writers at best. Assuming they didn't also want Troi as a regular on DS9, then they'd have to either be maintaining some sort of long-distance romance, and mentioning it from time to time, or Troi would have to be said to be living on DS9 with Worf, but only popping up in occasional guest spots. Either way, you're preventing Worf from having new relationships on DS9 and you're messing with the TNG films as well.

I'm sure that for all those reasons, the writers felt it was best forgotten.

And, really, is there anything too unrealistic about it? We didn't see their break-up on screen, but it obviously happened. They remained friends. Troi got back with Riker; Worf got involved with Jadzia. Doesn't sound very different from many real world romantic situations.

Whatever-name-it-was Falls on her homeplanet of Betazed.

Jenaren, I think the spelling is. I didn't mind the Worf/Troi thing but I much preferred her relationship with Riker. Those of us who were followers of the relationship never really saw it die out, even when Frakes' and Sirtis' attempts to keep it alive ended up on the cutting room floor.

Then offscreen, there's also the actors really hating the idea.

Michael Dorn said at a convention I attended that it was his idea in the first place and that he kept lobbying for it.

Maybe he had a thing for Sirtis in real life!!!

In that case he was pretty lucky in 1993-1994.

Oh, and at one point, I found this interesting picture with an interesting caption that said "She just used Worf to make Riker jealous!" Well, geez, Troi! I hope not! Please say it ain't so!

The maker used this picture:

I didn't like it very much. Only relationship worse was Chakotay/Seven.
The relationship came completely out of left field and didn't make any sense to me.
That's just as stupide as if TOS would have thrown Uhura and Scotty together at the last minute just to have a bit of romance between established characters because they couldn't do it during the main run of the show... oh, wait!!!

^ At least when TOS did it, Uhura was under some form of mind control and, therefore, not behaving normally. Based on Scotty's reaction, it would appear that there had been no relationship previously, except perhaps some sexual tension that had never been acted upon. Which makes a lot more sense than Seven and Chakotay just suddenly having a thing going on.

Worf was a total c-blocker.

The Troi-Worf romance always made me gag. In retrospect, I guess you can say it was Troi making Riker jealous to get him off his butt and make a move, and it was also a set up for Worf being open to dating non-Klingon women, especially marrying Jadzia. But that was another romance I found odd. I would have liked a Bashir-Jadzia thing, better. They should have just hooked Worf up with Grilka, had him marry Martok's daughter as a condition of entering the House of Martok, or something, and been done with it.

I saw Troi/Worf as simply something to shake things up. However, my wife and I were still horrified, LOL! One of the few things I liked about Insurrection and Nemesis was T/R back on track.

Nope. Off screen Dorn and Sirtis were, and still are best friends. She has said many times at different Cons that her and her husband get together with Dorn and his wife as often as they can. She also has a lot of funny stories about their friendship. Search You Tube.

As poorly conceived as the Worf-Troi relationship was, I never saw anything between Riker and Troi that indicated how they felt about one another except that it was in the script. A case of TNG's "cerebral" nature dooming a potentially interesting but ultimately half-baked romance.

Troi spent a lot of time with Worf and Alexander, trying to help improve the relationship between father and son. In my mind it's not inconceivable that Troi and Worf became close during these sessions, especially as Worf would have revealed a lot more about himself to Troi than to anyone else. I didn't mind their relationship, but I'm not surprised it didn't last. Still, I think Troi would have been better for Worf than Jadzia.

i always thought a Worf/Ro relationship would have made more sense. i didn't care too much for Worf/Troi when TNG was on the air and i still don't care for it. i thought Jadzia was a perfect fit though.

Worf and Troi abandoned their relationship after Picard told them about the future in "All Good Things".

I always found it nice that the cast were friends outside of work and from what I hear they still are

I found the Troi/Riker relationship boooOOOOOooorrrrrring...but then, I am almost always bored by relationships that the writers turn off and on merely to suit any given plot on any given day, and yeah, by that I mean Picard/Crusher, Chakotay/Janeway and Chakotay/Seven (the worst of the bunch, IMO).

So for me, the Troi/Worf relationship did exactly what the writers were hoping it would do, which is shake things up a little. I like how they built it up kind of gradually - something that's pretty rare in episodic TV and almost unheard of in Trek. I'm sure there are other exceptions but the only one I can think of is Torres/Paris, which was actually done quite well, as far as I can remember. And I thought Troi and Worf made for an interesting couple, far more interesting than Troi/Riker, which came across most of the time as a simple plot device that was used when it was useful and ignored when it was not. I hate it when writers pull that stuff.
