Poll: Ironing ~ chore or relaxing?

I avoid clothing that needs ironing. Most of my ironing lately has been to press seams flat for sewing projects, or doing iron-on t-shirt transfers.

One has to do ironing when sewing? Ugh! I was thinking a few days ago I´d like to learn sewing and make a dress like in that movie.

But maybe ironing is more fun when doing it sort of as a hobby and not as a housework task, should I ever give the dress a try. You think one can sew something like that without much further sewing experience?

You do know that you can get a little wooden thing to fold your clothes round and they come out perfect ~ Holdy will know.

Does the little wooden thing actually do the folding? If not, I am not interested.

I don't have a problem with the act of folding clothes. I do it just fine. I just don't ever want to!

Ooh, I don't know. I've only ever sewed purse linings, curtains, small uncomplicated things. I suppose it can't be too hard to follow a pattern if you read the instructions. Me, I don't read instructions very well.

The thing that Sheldon has on Big Bang Theory pretty much does the folding! I assume it is commercially available; thinking about getting one for the girls at my store so our t-shirt table will be less horrible.

I have one; I'm horrible at folding on my own and this makes it more fun. Plus packing is easier.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't know people actually ironed bedding. Seems like a waste of time.

I very rarely iron. I have only done it with nice slacks before a job interview. Otherwise, my clothes don't really require an iron. I wear jeans and t-shirts, with a sweater on top for half the year, no need to iron that stuff. No need to iron anything really unless I plan on going to an interview, wedding, or funeral.

So I can't say whether I like it or not. Happens too infrequently.

Don't they have creases when you take them out of the airing cupboard? It's not essential to iron them, but that depends on whether or not you want fold lines across your bed. I don't personally like them, and satin fabric is less prone to them.

I don't iron that often. I neither love or hate it. I probably do it a bit more often when I'm working.

This, for me.

I don't hate ironing, but I don't do it often, for a number of reasons:

--I'm careless and untidy;

--it's time-consuming;

--I'm not very good at it;

--I have the money to take things to the dry cleaner;

--I'm an academic, so I can get away with looking a bit rumpled;

--which is good, because I'm careless and untidy.

But I do iron, and even bought a new iron not too long ago.

As for Iron Man--how do you think he gets the dents out of that suit, after a battle?

Chore, but pop some music on and you can quickly get into a zen zone. But the dry cleaner is your real friend...

I'm a pretty good homemaker, but ironing is the only chore I am apparently biologically unable to do. Stuff that necessarily require ironing go to the drycleaner.
