Son mucked out his room today and I have washed and dried 3 loads of his clothes. He is studying hard (he was going to college in his dressing gown as all his clothes were dirty ;)) for his last exams and also taken on more work so he's busy and it's my day off.

But the ironing  Personally I do find it quite relaxing but I need add ons; ironing water ~ 'purple orchid', a little Pimms ~ obviously!, and regular cigarette breaks ~ obviously away from the new, lovely smelling clothes! I also love putting them all back on his rack; clean, pressed and smelling gorgeous!

The majority of things that I buy do not need pressing so just a swift shake and an air suffice, but if it needs a run over with the steaming thing ~ it has to be done.

So how do you feel about ironing?

It's actually pretty entertaining stuff. Helps keep my good arm working too. And it's something to do while the TV's on.

Then again, I don't have much to iron. But what I do iron, I do it intensely. (Like most things in life, really.)

Life is short, I don't need to lose time with something useless like ironing. So obviously, last answer for me :)

I hate it. If there is one housework task that I hate than its ironing. I never do it therefore. I do have everything one needs for ironing somewhere though...I think in the cellar in some dark corner.
I either buy things I do not have to iron or I buy things where you just can say they belong winkly. ;)
Well, sometimes I do wear ironed stuff, like at the last wedding I attended, but there I was lucky, that before going there I payed my parents a visit... *cought*andmymumironedthethings *cought*.
Though there was a time where I had to iron every day for at least 3 hours, when living in a family with 4 kids, who changed clothes 2-3 times (!) a day and put them into the laundry basket after one time wearing + one of them wet this bed regulary, which also produced a lot of washing.
That were TONS of clothes and I was responsible for the laundry and the ironing. I think thats why I hate it now and don´t iron my own stuff. Well, but I like to hear it when others iron and then this warm puff sound of the hot water and all... and I like the smell of it too... thats very relaxing, as long as I have the passiv part. ;)

I despise ironing. I used to have to iron my stupid uniforms for school, way back in the Dark Ages. As an adult, I go out of my way to avoid ironing. I buy the different "no ironing" sprays, I'll dampen things and put them back in the dryer. I'll hang them in the bathroom and try to steam the wrinkles out when I'm in the shower. I go out of my way to make sure nothing I own needs ironing. If it does, then I'm going out in wrinkled clothes, damn it.

Screw ironing. It's the chore from hell.

Irons were made by men just like high heels were! I say let them iron and wear high heels. haha

Although I worked with an attorney once who "micro waved" his court shirts to iron them, another hung his in the shower to be "steamed" Personally, I sprinkle a little water on something that looks wrinkled and toss it in the dryer. Therefore, no ironing.

I don't particularly enjoy ironing, but I don't hate it either. I ironed a bunch of clothes for about 20 minutes yesterday because they had been sitting clumped up in a laundry basket for about a week. In general, I try to buy clothes that don't require ironing.

Folding clothes, however, I absolutely despise, which is the main reason I had to iron my clumped up clothes yesterday.

Chore. I prefer clothes that I can get away with not ironing. Putting clothes 'straight' on the banisters ensure they'll dry without creases. :) And all my bedding is satin and it doesn't need ironing.

I don't have any clothes that need ironing. But if I had to do any ironing, I'd do it in the nude.

Why? Just for shits and giggles.

Chore. I hate ironing and do as little of it as I can.

As a 17 year old I used to work in a nursing home as a nurse's aide. When I did a night shift (which was quite often) there wasn't much work to do except answering the patients' bells and starting the breakfasts at 5.00am. So the owners decided that the nurse's aide could do the ironing. I used to do the ironing for 50 women between about 1-5am.

Oh what's going on with the 'good arm' thing at the moment? My left elbow has 'gone' ~ v painful shooting pains and try to ring the doctors on a Monday morning... Man's right arm is painful so I suggested binding us together to make one working human ~ he did not think it amusing ~ some people have NO sense of humour!

I bet you never stuff a mushroom either :techman:

LOL about the cellar.
Getting other people to do your ironing is an idea worth a medal.
Living with 4 kids is also worthy of a medal. Send your best jacket to the dry cleaners!
And the last bit is the only reason I do it :)

Excellent plan

:guffaw:inspired! What happens if you put it on for too long thou?

I detest ironing. Formal clothes go to the dry cleaner.

OK ~ rich boy

I honestly don't even know if I own an iron.

You do know that you can get a little wooden thing to fold your clothes round and they come out perfect ~ Holdy will know.

Hmm satin bedding... and my cat ~ yeah that's not going to work out, but I really like the idea :)

I hate ironing. I'll try and watch TV/ a DVD while I'm doing it just to take my mind off it.

It's the only way

Harsh.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do people in a nursing home want to get up at 5am? It's not like they need to get to work. They've done their time ~ why not relax?

5.00am was the time we started the breakfasts. We put a big pot of porridge on, set out the breakfast trays, put cereals in bowls etc. At around 5.30 we started to feed those ladies that couldn't feed themselves. The fitter ladies didn't get their breakfasts until about 6.30-7.00am. The morning staff came on at 7.00am and had to do do all the washing up after breakfast. The nursing home did not have a dishwasher so all the washing up had to be done by hand.

I voted "chore" and I am a man. Keep in mind, however, that I cook, clean, dust, sew, wash dishes, and do the laundry as well, among other day to day household chores.

I avoid clothing that needs ironing. Most of my ironing lately has been to press seams flat for sewing projects, or doing iron-on t-shirt transfers.

Hmm satin bedding... and my cat ~ yeah that's not going to work out, but I really like the idea :)

Yes I wouldn't advise mixing it with cats as it catches easily on rough or sharp things. Unpolished wood is the worst, as I discovered when assembling some bedroom furniture. It was almost like separating velcro! Fortunately it didn't do any damage.

I never realised just how nice satin feels until I tried it, and now I'll never go back. :p

I don't iron that often. I neither love or hate it. I probably do it a bit more often when I'm working.

A chore for me. In fact, I set aside a timeslot during the week when I can do my ironing: Friday nights from around 8 to about 9 p.m. while watching Smallville (when it was still on). I neither like nor dislike it; it's just like going to work--something that has to be done. ;)
