Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & books

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

they play dagon on the sy fy channel all the time.
I wouldn't bother watching it on TV, it's very R with some nudity, gore, swearing, so it'd be heavily edited.
Dan O'Bannon's The Resurrected is quite a nice take on The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward.

It goes without saying that I can hardly wait for Del Toro's adaptation of At The Mountains Of Madness....
I thought GDT's At The Mountains of Madness was no longer happening?

Universal refused to greenlight it as an R-rated movie, and Del Toro refused to make it PG-13, so he and James Cameron are currently working to get Fox to pick it up.

I wonder, has anyone ever asked Del Toro why At The Mountains Of Madness has to be R-rated? It has very little gore, no nudity and no f-words that I can remember ...

Probably for tone- there'll be autopsy scenes on people, penguins and aliens... Plus there's whole issue of what shoggoths actually would do, visually (i.e. bite people's - and penguins' - heads off) and what the mutant penguins would do...

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Most of the Tarzan films were only loosely based on the character. The ones that were adapted from the novels were mostly the silent ones made in the teens and twenties. The ones I recall right off were (film title first, then the name of the novel on which the film was based):

Tarzan of the Apes -- from the first half of the original novel "Tarzan of the Apes."
The Romance of Tarzan -- based on the second half of the novel "Tarzan of the Apes"
The Revenger of Tarzan -- from the novel "The Return of Tarzan"
The Son of Tarzan -- from the novel of the same name
Adventures of Tarzan -- from the novels "The Return of Tarzan" and parts of "Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar"
Tarzan and the Golden Lion -- from the novel of the same name
Tarzan the Tiger -- from "Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar"

In the sound era:

Greystoke -- from the novel "Tarzan of the Apes"
And Disney's "Tarzan" from the novel "Tarzan of the Apes"

love greystroke and the disney's animated movie and tv series. thought christopher lambert was great as tarzan.

later on I'll put the rest of his books up for those who love burroughs.
all so coming up next is conan reading list. and it seems there is all ready a new novalistation of the new movie ready for pre-order.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

now here are two other series by burroughs I all ways wanted to try but never got around to and want opinions on:

the first series is the Pellucidor series:

at earth's core
pellucidor
tanar of pellucidor
tarzan at earth's core
back to the stone age
land of terror
savage pellucidor

and here is the venus series:

Pirates of venus
lost on venus
carson of venus
escape on venus
the wizard of venus

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I've always wanted to write a remake of At The Earth's Core.

I assume you mean a remake of the movie, not the novel. What would you have done differently from the McClure-Cushing movie (and who can you envision playing Dian The Beautiful other than Caroline Munro)?

How about a remake of "The Land that Time Forget"? I thought Moorcock did a decent screenplay(probably the closest adaptation of an ERB book), but was surprised that he killed off the protagonist of the 3rd Caspak novel.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

tarzan and the foreign legion 1947

One of my favorite Tarzan novels. I liked how ERB made fun of the Tarzan movies by having an American GI ask if John Clayton was Johnny Weissmuller.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

There was a recent remake of "The Land That Time Forgot."

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

this is one of my favorite series by burroughs and here is my reading list for john carter of mars:

and here are two that were written by his son

john carter and the giant of mars
skeleton men of Jupiter

.

I'm not an ERB expert, but I think he actually wrote "Skeleton Men." It was only "Giant" that was written in part by his son. It's been years since I've read them, but, as I recall, "Skeleton Men" read just the other books.
Right. ERB did write Skeleton Men from Jupiter. only two 'chapters' of the story were ever published though. Burroughs never did finish it.

timothy, have you seen the Solomon Kane film that came out a year or so ago? if not, its worth checking out.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Tarzan fans might want to add Tarzan Alive by Philip Jose Farmer* to thie reading list. It approaches the character of Tarzan as if he was an actual person and the novels were fictionalized accounts of his life. Pretty interesting stuff.

(*Farmer also gave the character of Doc Savage the same treatment.)

no I totally missed it. all so I have to read solomon kane as well so I really don't know the character that well. is it out on blu ray or dvd yet?

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

The movie has yet to get a US release (outside of some festival screenings).

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

yeah, the movie hasn't had an official US release. its out there and easy to find on the web though.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

Just checked out the trailer for the movie, and it is a shame it never came out in the US, it looks pretty cool. Why hasn't it been picked up for a US release, it looks to me like the kind of thing that would make a great summer movie.

Re: Robert e Howard,Edgar rice Burroughs & H.P.lovecraft comics & book

I found the trailer I am looking forward to reading the books or book on solomon kane.
I don't know how to do the links but if someone can do a link to trailer or clips from the books and movies of these three authors that would be fantastic.
