I'd like to offer a third recommendation for Kim Newman's vampire series. Also Jeanne Kalogridis' Covenant of the Vampire Series is also very good.

If you are going to read Kim Newmans vampire books don't forget to keep an eye out for books written by 'Jack Yeovil', it's one of Newmans pen names and he wrote a bunch of Vampire stories under that name - most of them are collected in an omnibus called 'Genevieve Undead'
remmber buck rodgers vampire now that was bad.

I like the show and hear the books aren't too bad.![]()
I like the show, too.... but only because of Damon. He's super awesome.
His brother is a cry baby, and there is no chance in hell that a real Elena would ever pick him.
The books are okay, but nothing spectacular.
all so love the original salem's lot from 78'.
The Passage begins in the near future and details an apocalyptic and, later, post-apocalyptic world that is overrun by vampire-like beings that are infected by a highly contagious virus. What begins as a project to develop a new immunity-boosting drug based on a virus carried by an unnamed species of bat in South America eventually becomes the virus that transforms the world. The novel begins in 2018 and spans more than ninety years as colonies of humans attempt to live in a world filled with superhuman creatures who are continually on the hunt for fresh blood.
