Ah, but the Genevieve in those books is not quite the Genevieve of the Anno Dracula series. Although, I haven't actually read them. Are they any good?

Also, it looks like Newman's Johnny Alucard might finally be coming out this year.

For a truly hilarious take on vampires, watch Super Friends. They had two vamp episodes, both of which - I swear I am not making this up - had vampirism spread by laser beams.

I like the show and hear the books aren't too bad.

I like the show, too.... but only because of Damon. He's super awesome. His brother is a cry baby, and there is no chance in hell that a real Elena would ever pick him.

The books are okay, but nothing spectacular.

Haven't seen the show, but if you're going to read the books, stop after the first 4 (The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury, Dark Reunion) or possibly even after just the first 3. The ones that Smith has been putting out lately are beyond godawful, to the point where the publisher has actually taken the series away from her and is having the remainder of the books ghostwritten.

If you like Smith's work and vampires, though, I'd check out her Night World series. It's uneven and only some of them have vamps, but I prefer the Night World books to Vampire Diaries. (But warning: she's never put out the last book in the Night World series, Strange Fate, and the release date keeps getting pushed farther and farther back. Not to mention, with the drop in quality of her recent work, I don't think the series is going to end on a well-written note. OTOH, even the worst of the Night World stuff is much, much better than Twilight.)

As for the Anita Blake novels, they've gradually been turning into porn without plot. Would not recommend (or would recommend stopping long before current point.)

I'll second the recommendation for Anne Rice's first four books, as well. Again, that's a series that starts deteriorating in quality after a while.

I so can't wait till the dark shadow's remake johny depp as barnabos collins will be fantastic. now does any one know if this series aviable on dvd or blu ray. and I do mean the original series. not the 90's remake.

I don't know the passage. as for the twilight series I like the books don't care for the movie at all except for the girl who plays alice. she's a hottie. all so I do agree if you're reading a vamp book more gore and drama than sex and romance.

I just started reading Kim Harrison's The Hollows series, a True Blood, Dresden Files type urban fantasy series. This one's take on Vampires is a little more unique, at least to me, in it there are two different types of living and undead. The living Vampires are normal people who have been infected by a Vampire virus and get a few of the vampires abilities, and then when they die the become an undead vampire, who appear to have all or most of the tradition vampire qualities. The series main character is a bounty hunter witch who lives and and works with a living vampire and a pixie. I'm only a few pages into the first book, but I'm already loving it.

Agreed. That was great.

One of the most faithful and quality adaptations of a King novel there has been.

Just a shame about the jarring freeze-frames which presumably originally led into commercial breaks. IIRC one of the creepiest scenes in the film ends in this absurd freeze frame on the floating vampire boy's face, it totally kills it.

Speaking of vampires, I'm intrigued by the upcoming remake of FRIGHT NIGHT. I have't seen the original in decades, but I remember liking it. (Hopefully AMC or TCM will rerun the original when the version opens.)

Heck I even read the novelization by Skipp & Spector.
