I don't think this film is meant to be a Civil Rights Allegory.
i had the skip over some stuff in the DS review, as i've just got to the part where Vicki and Jeff get married. this is my first time watching the whole series. i grew up with reruns on sci-fi ch, but i would miss whole months of the show so i was usually kinda confused. That was quick Shin! Didn't know anyone was reading the Dark Shadows fun!![]()
Thanks for posting that.I don't think this film is meant to be a Civil Rights Allegory.

Michael Fassbender... I know he's a German guy raised in Ireland, but couldn't he at least TRY to sound like Ian McKellen? I really expected more of him.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270798/triviaMatthew Vaughn instructed the cast to do away with all accents in their performances. James McAvoy had planned to copy Patrick Stewart's voice (since McAvoy was going to play a younger version of Stewart's Xavier), but Vaughn quashed it; Vaughn also told Rose Byrne that Moira MacTaggart would not have her trademark Scottish accent in the film (to the Scottish McAvoy's mild disappointment).
I wonder what Brian Singer's thoughts on this were.but Vaughn discouraged him and told him just to use the comics as his reference.
I guess I just really got used to McKellen's take on Magneto that to me it's the ONLY Magneto. What's the point of hiring new actors and re energizing the franchise if you have new actors mimicking the previous actors?
Demotion beat me to it!
Yes he was told to use his natural voice. Do folks who only saw him in Inglorious Basterds not realize he doesn't really have an English accent? If you'd watched his films previously, this is just the way he talks. In Hunger he has a totally thick put on Northern Irish accent if anybody really wants to hear how Irish he can really sound. He has put on other accents and held them through an entire film, and in one interview, he jokingly put on a Connery sound that he was also told not to use. Really, I don't see how an accent could be so off putting in a film. McAvoy and Byrne aren't using their natural accents or previous incarnations' inflections, either.
All Roman Soldiers somehow have British accents, too, remember?![]()
I kinda like that, actually. British accent sounds, well... Classy... Shakespearean... And... Stuff...All Roman Soldiers somehow have British accents, too, remember?![]()
Yeah but making him a human, especially one that coonfirms everything Erik hates about human's would have made Erik's ark much stronger.
I haven't seen The Eagle, but they intentionally made the Romans sound American because they were trying to make some lame point about the Roman Empire being the America of its time, or something like that.I kinda like that, actually. British accent sounds, well... Classy... Shakespearean... And... Stuff...All Roman Soldiers somehow have British accents, too, remember?![]()
I recently saw "The Eagle" where most Romans sound American and it just felt funny. And not at all in a good way.
