i had the skip over some stuff in the DS review, as i've just got to the part where Vicki and Jeff get married. this is my first time watching the whole series. i grew up with reruns on sci-fi ch, but i would miss whole months of the show so i was usually kinda confused.

That was an interesting take on it. I must admit, I didn't like how of the two non-white mutants, one defected and one got killed.

And the other one reminded me of a bad Prince (The Artist Formerly known as The Artist Formerly known as Prince) impersonator who could throw tornados, but not as good as Storm.

Ok, just got back from the theatre...

Michael Fassbender... I know he's a German guy raised in Ireland, but couldn't he at least TRY to sound like Ian McKellen? I really expected more of him.

The movie itself wasn't bad, although the main villain kinda sucked, and when the movie's highpoint is a 30 second cameo by Hugh Jackman, then you know things are far from perfect.

All in all, it's not on par with the first two, but it's far better than "Wolverine".

^ Apparently he wanted to study the young McKellen and go down the DeNiro-in-Godfather II/ McGregor-in-Star-Wars route but Vaughn discouraged him and told him just to use the comics as his reference. But I have to admit, I was surprised at just how strong his Irish accent was in parts.

    Demotion beat me to it!

Yes he was told to use his natural voice. Do folks who only saw him in Inglorious Basterds not realize he doesn't really have an English accent? If you'd watched his films previously, this is just the way he talks. In Hunger he has a totally thick put on Northern Irish accent if anybody really wants to hear how Irish he can really sound. He has put on other accents and held them through an entire film, and in one interview, he jokingly put on a Connery sound that he was also told not to use. Really, I don't see how an accent could be so off putting in a film. McAvoy and Byrne aren't using their natural accents or previous incarnations' inflections, either.

All Roman Soldiers somehow have British accents, too, remember? ;)

What's the point of hiring new actors and re energizing the franchise if you have new actors mimicking the previous actors?

I wonder what Brian Singer's thoughts on this were.

I guess I just really got used to McKellen's take on Magneto that to me it's the ONLY Magneto.

BTW, I just glanced at the numbers, and it appears that the film isn't exactly a smash - only $74 Mil. in its opening week which for a 160 million dollar movie really isn't that great. I wonder what Fox will do with the franchise next...

To be fair though, Erik is supposed to be Polish, so I think it's a legitimate enough complaint. And I'm Irish, incidentally!

I kinda like that, actually. British accent sounds, well... Classy... Shakespearean... And... Stuff...

I recently saw "The Eagle" where most Romans sound American and it just felt funny. And not at all in a good way.

I think the combined shelling of the US and Soviet navies confirmed everything Erik hates about humans. Especially when it was combined with the phrase "let them go, they're innocent men just following orders."

I haven't seen The Eagle, but they intentionally made the Romans sound American because they were trying to make some lame point about the Roman Empire being the America of its time, or something like that.
