Well they weren't the baddies in the Angels 2 parter. It's a big universe, probably a big army and much like these days, I guess some of their actions are more legitimate than others.

Also the presense of Dorimum (sp?) suggests this is River's time.
Eh but if River's timestream is travelling in the other direction to the Doctors then that can't be exactly correct because he would have died before the events of the pandorica opening so she would have had to travel back in time to meet him but that's not possible since she got the time braclet from him.

 blast it.

They can't seem to make their mind up on that, either it's happening out of order, which means that would be fine, or it's happening in reverse. I tend to go with out of order.

Even if River and the Doctor are meeting directly in reverse, there's no rule that says the Doctor has to be meeting Dormium, or Jack, or any other 51st century denizens contemporaneously with his most recent or next upcoming visit with River.

Also, she had a wrist strap in this episode (there was the tell-tale thunderclap when she showed up at the end) and in the Astronaut two-parter, so either she goes through a lot of them and buys a new one on the black market every time she breaks out of prison to meet the Doctor, or they both take place for her after the Pandorica episodes.

Ditto, wholly in reverse doesn't make sense with everything we've seen so far.

Also, River is a timetraveler herself. No reason for her to go back to shortly before his death, cause she knows he won't be needing the manipulator himself for obvious (to him inknown) reasons. though she would never spoil the surprise for him. ;)

Amy said to Rory in "The Impossible Astronaut" that they never meet in the right order so they have to sync up their diaries.

I'm having trouble connecting with this dramatically. It just doesn't feel like we've arrived here in a natural organic way or that the characters are reacting appropriately.

Is everyone pretty happy with the storyline so far or does anyone feel that way at all?

Well, in my review of this episode I felt like we had a good prolouge and middle, but the Beginning was missing. Heck, I wouldn't mind having a flashback episode to fill in the gaps because the leap we took to get from Wedding Night to Amy mysteriously kidnapped is too big for my tastes.

This season is definitely missing something, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what.

Perhaps too much focus on the companions and the arc, and not enough on the Doctor?

Ok, I can see how the "learning to humble himself again" thing is a good direction for the character, but I sure am going to miss the occasional "What are you retarded? I'm the goddamn Doctor" moments we've had in recent years.

I think I was a bit blindsided as well because I thought the Doctor's demons were exorcised with Waters of Mars and End of Time. I didn't really think 11 was going to still carry baggage.

And maybe this will be followed up and be satisfying but I'm not so sure about the setup.

I'm glad that someone else voiced that thought, because I feel the same way. Although I still enjoy the show, there's something here that's just not working for me, and I can't decide if it's Smith's performance, Moffat's writing, a bit of both or something else entirely.

I haven't seen AGMGTW yet (9:00 tonight) but I've skimmed over this thread and have a vague idea of what's coming. I hope I'm wowed by it, but have some doubts.

I think each episode is edited to be a breakneck, madcap thrill and doesn't slow down to let the audience have intimate moments with the characters. There have been a bunch of episodes this season that I simply didn't like on first viewing, but warmed to after seeing them two or three times. That tells me things are happening too fast and I'm not getting the time to mull over what I've just watched before the next scene rushes in.

Series five was much better this way. The first year of the eleventh Doctor was almost perfect and I really looked forward to the second, thinking they'd work out the kinks and start putting out the best Doctor Who ever. Instead, they've settled into a pace that's just too fast and the series has been a let down so far.

I initially didn't get to see Series 5 when it aired, because Skiffy had dropped DW and at the time, we didn't get BBCA. Once we upgraded our cable, I got the DVD set of 5 from the library to catch up before the April premier. And the difference between the Moffat/Smith era and the RTD/Tennant era was a bit jarring at first. Smith acted like he was on crack and I didn't like Amy at all, at first.

Still not sold on Smith, but I've grown to like Amy better and I personally think Rory's the best character on the show right now (aside from River). I keep reminding myself that I didn't warm to Tennant at first, having gotten used to Eccleston's Doctor, so perhaps in time, I'll come to like Smith as well. I think part of my problem is the fact I have very fond memories of the Baker/Davison era, and the pace of the show back then. It's probably an unfair comparison, apples to oranges, but it's hard not to compare.

It's not apples and oranges, it's mammoths and elephants. The pace of the Baker/Davison years is nowhere to be found on television in the 21st century, and I don't think it's something we should expect from the contemporary take on Doctor Who either.

I agree with you on that totally, but my point is that while a contemporary audience expects this kind of pace these days, I think that the story, or overall arc, can also suffer for it. Like I said, it's probably an unfair comparison, just my personal observation on it.

That said, it still won't keep me from watching tonight!

I just watched the first few minutes on Space. Man, I wish they'd get rid of that "My name is Amy" opening bit. It spoils the flow, and definitely lessens the impact of the teaser sequence in this episode.

Hopefully between now and the fall someone gives BBC America a good shake. I've had a chance to see the UK versions of the last 4 episodes and they open so much better without it. They better use the UK versions for the Region 1 Blu-ray.

Yeah, I find it a bit tedious at this point as well; the show never needed a narrative intro before.

Less than 15 minutes to go for the BBCA broadcast.
