Laurence Fishburne leaves CSI

Dream

EXCLUSIVE: After two-and-a-half seasons, Laurence Fishburne is leaving CSI. The Oscar-nominated actor's deal on the show was up and he opted not to renew it. He is expected to return to features full-time. It was a major coup for CBS to land Fishburne as a successor to original star William Petersen who left the series in December 2008. But when he last renewed his contract for CSI last May, Fishburne only did it for one season.

"Nobody expected him to be on the show for 7 years, it's Laurence Fishburne," one insider said.

CBS will probably try to hire another big name actor again. What is William Petersen doing these days?

I'm glad this didn't come out before the finale aired last night in the UK.

I liked Ray, but he did dominate the show a bit. I hope they don't get down the route of getting another big name in, unless its Petersen of course.

I'm guessing Eckley's daughter from LA will be a cast member next year?

I wonder if Gullifoyle might be leaving too?

I hope they don't try to shoehorn somebody else in the cast. I thought the character of Ray Langston was a total failure. Laurence seemed disinterested in the role the whole time. And Ray was a complete know-it-all who went from trainee to stark raving lunatic in two seasons.

Marg Helgenberger is going to be in a limited number of episodes before she exits next season, so I don't see why they can't just keep George Eads and Jorja Fox as the leads.

Yeah the evolution from rookie to superman was a bit strange...if Catherine is leaving/reducing, then I could definitely see Nick as the team supervisor. I'll be amazed if the LA CSI doesn't show up in Vegas next season!

CSI is coming to the end of its life so I doubt they will hire a major major name. CSI probably has 2 years of life left in it tops.

I'd argue it, and the entire franchise, was on life-support before Petersen left.

Well back in 2010 I make a remark we would lose a CSI show by the time of 2012 so I expect either Miami or NY to be cancelled after the upcoming season, most likely NY.

The trouble is I thought part of the reason for Petersen leaving was down to his health and being in Navada not being very healthy. If it was just about money I'm sure they could afford him. One last season with Grissom back would be great though.

Cath's character got royally screwed over by the Lagstonification of CSI, so I'm not surprised at Helgenberger leaving. It makes me sad though. It'd have been nice to have Langston disappear and to go back to the camaraderie of the core cast. Have Cath as a competent boss and Nick as her deputy without a Big Name Marty Stu distorting the rest of the team's characters.

I dont know whats going on with Catherine, at one point this last season was her final season, but then she would be in a few episodes at the start of the series, and well if she keeps that up she will never actually make the decesion to leave, and end up staying.

That would be no bad thing, the show needs a lead, and I just dont see that in Nick or Sarah. If Catherine doesnt stay this could well be the final series, and the show will go out with a whimper.

The show is still getting really good numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if they drug it out for 10 more years. It's not getting 30 million viewers anymore, but no drama is.

I don't hate him, I just liked him better originally when he was the naive rookie, I think he became too much of a central figure given he wasn't the boss, hell given he was the lowest ranking member of the team!

He went from an interesting trainee to a know-it-all CSI with serial killers constantly stalking and beating him up.
