Babylon 5 viewing order

This might in effect be a "counter-spoiler" but.... what you will see in S5 is not what has been referred to as the "Telepath War".

Exactly, which is why I avoided any mention of the story at all, and just voiced my dislike for Byron, a character which is also not a spoiler.

Personally, I find the very concept of "spoilers" idiotic. These shows have been available forever. There's nothing new. And, if you're really gonna allow a mention in passing of something to ruin an entire show for you, then maybe TV viewing isn't for you.

Randy, one of the rules of the board is, essentially "Don't be a dick." It's a spoiler-free thread for someone on his first view through the series. If you disagree, take it elsewhere. There are thousands, possibly tens of thousands of other threads on the board in which you can spout your spoilers. Don't be a dick.

And there's no need to call him one, either.

Infraction for flaming

Just going to say, the DVD packaging SUCKS...open up season five sealed new...and one of the internal holders of the disk has already broken...grrr.

Really? That's one of the shows I had no trouble with DVD packaging. In fact I wish every show was packaged so well.

Now, you want to talk shit packaging, DS9 comes to mind. I've had to use several miles of scotch tape putting those back together.

That's odd because when I bought season 5 (and S4 come to think of it) they were in individual slimline dvd cases and those things are damn near indestructible. Now the earlier season set with the clear plastic & cardboard flip book type packaging was a nightmare. Discs falling out, brittle plastic chipping and cracking in the post, not to mention the glue on the spine coming undone.

Oh and I should probably warn you that there may be some errors late in the season depending on when those discs were authored. During the initial release one episode in the latter quarter of the season was missing the entire teaser scene prior to the credits and another had an error in it's title sequence. I can't go into any further detail as even the damn episode titles are spoilers, though I'll try to remind you when you get close. Hopefully you've gotten them from after those issues were corrected.

Same here, albeit with another season. Still that's the original packaging isn't it? There was a slimline version that came out which seems to be a little better.

This will be interesting to see your reactions throughout S5

A friend of mine here on the board told me he's missing the teaser for that episode. That's not just his, then? I actually have two copies of the episode in question (long story), so I keep meaning to give him my spare, because it's really not an episode you can afford to miss anything from...

Himm, Great, as this was "though amazon" but not a amazon itself, Also, watching it fill up my TV almost gave me motion sickness as I was so used to it being a fullscreen though netflix.

Season 1 and 5 are the large cardboard cases, 3 and 4 I have the slim cases. I had the glue fail on the season 5 as I opened it so one of the plastic inserts is now loose. I really need to check which episode (Just give me a number folks) and though netflix I can see the first few seconds of the teaser, and then a few seconds of the DVD, and see if I have the teaser, as if I do not have the teaser, I really need to get it returned pronto.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe that that only was on the Region 2 disks. At one point I had an address to write to for replacements. I can try to dig that up if you like?

Jan

^ I think you gave me that address about three years ago already. Never did get around to it though. It hardly matters now as I went and got this back in November. Sooo much more compact! ;)

It's a bit tricky since even the episode title is a spoiler. You'll know when you get to it as the previous episode ends in a cliffhanger and the next one will just go straight into the title sequence. I suppose it won't spoil anything if I say it's the second episode on disc 5. Careful though, if you decide to check ahead and there's nothing wrong then the first thing you'll see is a very quick recap of the previous episode, thus it is chock full of spoilers. If Jan is right though (I'm assuming you're not in R2) it may not be something you need worry about, so probably better to wait until you get to it.

well Amazon is crediting me with $5 due to the packaging falling apart. I have Season 1 and 5 in the old large packaging, and 2-4 in the smaller packaging. Now off to watch season 5

Two episodes in today....

No compromises - Blah, once again, for the 3rd time, we have a pilot Episode! The first bits with Elizabeth Lochley made me hate her guts. Commanders like that get spaced by there crews...however she does recover somewhat later in the episode and goes from hate to meh...

Byron...meh, I don't like him but don't hate him, hope he just a minor reoccurring...though some have mentioned he may be more.

As for the plot, how in the farg did both the assassin and Garibaldi get star furies? I least we get to see a Gaim...

The very long night of Londo Mollari - Bless G'Kar and Londo, who save this meditation on guilt from the abyss of bad episodes to a fine episode. though the B-plot of Lennier leaving due to both love and some guilt (for the death of Marcus) gets lost. Lennier joining the rangers...best of luck. Londo asking for forgiveness was of course a powerful thing. I guessing this was a "Bottle" episode as I don't recall any new special effects, and some of the stuff was clips from previous episodes.

Also it seems that Marcus sacrifice almost seems empty since we do not see Susan. Though I understand the off stage issues that caused the leaving of C. Christian.

Aye, a number of elements early this season would have worked better had Ivanova still been around and dealing with Marcus' death.

Agreed. Say what you will about Byron and the Telepaths, but the lack of Ivanova is easily my least favorite thing about Season 5.

That's actually one of the elements I was referring to...

The original plan was for Ivanova to fall for Byron, not Lyta. The idea being that, in addition to her latent telepathy, she'd kind of see reflections of Marcus in him and not want to make the same mistake twice... Of course then it turning out to be an even bigger mistake! As much as I like Lyta (she'd be around as one of Byron's acolytes), that arc sounds much more dramatic and gives Marcus' death more meaning.

What I liked about it was that while Garibaldi didn't spare the time to put on a pressure suit, he did manage to get out there in *his* old starfury (you can tell because it had Daffy Duck on the nose art ;) .)

Mini-trivia time: Technically, we haven't seen what most Gaim look like yet at all. All the ones we have seen - in or out of their encounter suits - are what are called 'explorer drones'. They're genetically engineered to have the same two arm, two leg anatomy of most other species and used to interact with other races on behalf of the Queens. Most other Gaim probably look more like you'd expect a true insectoid race to look like...though there are a number of varieties with their own specific functions, it'd be a bit tricky to determine which (if any) is the race's "natural" form.
