How many beings has the Dr killed?

I believe he's killed from early on... didn't he and Ian remove a dalek from its casing, in the daleks' first appearance? That would have killed the dalek, surely.

Would that kill a Dalek? Or just render one helpless? Then again, I remember Tom Baker with tentacles wrapped around his throat, so only partially-helpless.
Well, there's that whole end scene from "Dalek", where the dalek opens its casing despite a caution that this would kill it...

Well I guess we better add the entire 10th Cyber legion to the Dr's kill count!

In Resurrection Of The Daleks (1984), one escapes from its casing and goes on a rampage, perishing shortly afterwards. Maybe they have seconds to live and are thereby inclined to "go for broke".

He killed Satan too, well the black hole killed the body, Rose killed the mind and The Doctor kept the idea of the beast to himself.

It's hard for me to completely consider the doctor as a hero..after all the lives he has taken in his journeys, it seems to me that the doctor has become a quite eccentric egotistic, narcassistic, murderer..

sure he kills when he has to, but always talks a different game to others..(do as I say not as I do.)

something about that sanctimoneous attitude they give him in the newer series drives me insane..I would prefer they left that bit out..he killed before but we knew it was mainly self defense.. or protecting others.. now they have convoluted the situation so much so that the doctor has to stop and make the audience aware of why he's just about to murder a whole species.. "ah I see, so the whole world is in danger after all, thanks that is all I needed to know."

why even go there, if not to contradict his earlier stupid inane dribble of talking down to the "humans" about murder is wrong..(but then he goes and does it)

All that talk about "I hate guns!" and then he goes and blows up an entire civilisation..so essentially it's not the act of killing he is in disagreement with, just the bloody method..

Phew.. what a dumbass excuse..

that whole thing gets tired and redundant..

that seemed to be always the case with RTD's work..10 said that stupid phrase about the reasons why he was going to kill just about every other episode, it seemed..

Moffat has done better, but the arrogance is still present..the whole scene with the atraxi on the roof top of the hospital in ep1. of series 5, and then that scene in the big bang with all the aliens hover over stone henge, I was like come on! this guy is a complete bloviating jerk! who wrote that crap! the on coming storm...

I preferred it when the doctor was humble and you had worry if he was going to get out alive.. now it is almost assured by his continual confident rants and bragging..

The Oncoming Storm was coined in the RTD era for the 9th Doctor so that's when that "crap" as you call it was written. Also, it's been a long time coming when The Doctors reputation was really going to bite him the ass. Even Davros said in Journey's End that while The Doctors voice was different, the arrogance was unmistakable. Basically, he's come to believe his own hype.

I'm not as well versed in the classic series as some here but I've certainly read and seen enough to get the impression that "humble" and The Doctor are not necessarily words that go hand in hand.

yea I forgot it was 9 that said the oncoming storm.. ten was the one who coined the phrase "time lord victorious."

as for the term humble, what I meant was that the Doctor didn't necessarily brag as much as he does and puffs himself up as in the newer series..in the classics, he just delt with the issue, and moved on..

no need to delve deeper into his own psyche about the whys and hows, and how wonderfully brilliant he is in his own right..

1, 2, 3 though pertwee was condescending at times, but that was always referenced back to his frustration of being stuck with inferior tech..

4 was excellent, and just did what he needed to do, and talked in confusing terms to blow off dry and dim technical discussions, or deflect his anxiety..

5 was just always a grumpy person..

6 was touchy and loud, a bit pompass, but nothing on the scale we seem to keep getting reminded of today.

7 was great, very mysterious in his actions, always sly and ahead of the enemy, with some campy running and comedic fun thrown in..

8 was a straight shooter..

9 was excentric and didn't over do his cockiness, but it was present in a more subdued fashion..

I suppose it's mainly 10 I take issue with..though I liked him very much..(not the actor but the writers who wrote his lines are what annoys me)

11 we get quirky and fun, but also that arrogant ass steps out from time to time.. and it always bothers me..

Yea, I've seen most of Pertwee, and everything since (And a few of the first Two Doctors as well), and yea, Humble isn't really a correct way to describe the Doctor. McCoy was especially devious, threatening, bragging and dangerous.

Checked the Varos thing. One guard falls into the acid by accident and pulls the other in. He's clean. ;)

I need to watch Varos again, but doesn't he push the guy in (possibly accidentally) with a gurney? Also doesn't he make some kind of witty Bond style pun afterwards as well?

McCoy's bragging never bothered me, maybe because of his age he seemed more inclined to have clout as he did so.. maybe it is just the manner of bragging and self adulation that 10 and 11 do, or maybe their young age that just rubs me the wrong way..honestly I really don't know what it is..

however with the way the doctor is written these days, it sure seems like he is full of hypocrisy..

kills whole civilisations but wags his finger at starship UK's treatment of the star whale.. which is torture, but much less then anything he has ever done..wiping a whole race from the universe..
