6x07 A Good Man Goes To War (Grade/Discuss) SPOILERS!

4/5. I'm sure this will get a lot of top scores because it superficially felt epic. It was entertaining. But, a lot of action happened off screen, followed by a "battle" that was too easy, followed by a lot of talking.

Don't get me wrong. I was entertained but it wasn't great.

I don't know why these episodes aren't quite clicking with me. Too much fanwank? Too much madcap romp? I much preferred last season so far. And while the Doctor certainly rose high in this episode, that fall didn't seem quite so hard.

This episode, however, forever cements the Sontarans as my favorite Doctor Who bad guys. I already liked them to begin with, but now ...

Anyway, has anyone else seen this? Check the date.

And let's make sure the Doctor gets a copy of this before September!

I watched the last three episodes, and now I'm feeling so lost. Perhaps most of this stuff was done with the 2005 Doctor Who in mind (When I started watching), but I can't help but feel all this conversation of fanwank and references to the past are starting to make me feel out of the loop. If there was one thing I liked from the first season (And if you know me, you know I'm not going to clarify...again) was that things seemed to be explained, to get viewers caught up to speed. I feel now maybe everything was so distant or from the classic series that I feel out of the loop a little.

Still, I enjoyed all three episodes, and putting the things together was great at the end there. Perhaps I better go see Forest of the Dead again (It's on Netflix) since a lot of people have been talking about that one, but the reactions from The Doctor, Amy, and River were fantastic. Also liked hearing the Demon's run poem.

There's just so much to take in, but I have 4 questions that I would love answered. Let me preface this by saying I've been out of the loop on the Doctor Who universe (And this forum) for like 4 weeks so if this stuff has been discussed, that's why.

1) Did the "Fake" doctor survive the dissolving by like regeneration or something and that's why we saw a duplicate copy who "died"?

2) Did we actually get an answer as to the first 10 minutes of The Impossible Astronaut and the death scene, or does the Doctor just know?

3) Are we done with the crack story? I ask because in the scene where we were getting all the information with the Doctor and Eye Patch lady (Did she get a name?), I noticed something that looked like the crack from last season on the screen. They did talk about Silint falling and that was a key phrase from last season so I'm just wondering

4) Was the soldier Melody or just someone else? She did seem too young to die and the whole thing with River needs to come to fuition doesn't it? Also, who was the other woman soldier in the white and black that was helping the Doctor that looked attractive? I didn't recognize her but I would love to see her again? The Little girl we saw at the end of the first two parter, who told the Homeless Man that everything was going to be ok, I'm assuming that's Melody too right?

I'm sorry if these questions sound basic for this forum, but I think it's representative of how I feel about this season. I'm confused, befuddled, but still entertained. It was great seeing things come together, but I'm wondering how much I'm really missing out.

I imagine we'll find out in a few months when they air the second half a season six. Wouldn't surprise me though.

Nope. Again, the season isn't over. They've just split it into two parts. We'll be getting six more episodes this Fall. Presumable all will be answered in the season finale.

Well assumidly there'll be no more cracks. However we've yet to discover who caused it all, or how it relates to Amy and Melody.

The soldier was just apparently a random caracter he'll meet as a young girl in some future adventure.

Not sure I understand who you mean by 'the soldier in black and white'. You mean Jenny, the Silurians partner?

And yep, that was most likely Melody in the two parter. One assumes shes either a) managed to escape, or b) has been brainwashed, and sent on her mission to kill the Doctor.

Meh. Another formless Moffat episode. It had a lot of stuff in it that should have been awesome, but it felt like nothing happened. It was much like "Journey's End" (my least favorite of the RTD episodes) in that they tossed every character and concept from the past seasons in there for no reason except they could.

So, assuming that's what The Moff is playing with here, and take into account what we've seen in this episode, I wonder what we've seen here will change Doctor Who stories in the future?

For the past 6 years, we've had the Lonely God, the Oncoming Storm, as the persona for The Doctor. This facade of him probably started with the end of the Time War. What River said here to him would get him thinking of what he has done in these past lives, and may change the way he treats situations forever? No more, Mr "no second chances", perhaps?

Also, the other thing I just thought of. If Amy was switched before America, as the Doctor said here, and obviously the 1100 years old Doctor would know the Amy he met was a Ganger, then he staged the death to convince the Eye-patch Lady and whoever her allies were that the Doctor is dead? Still don't know how The Moff is going to get out of that one.

The whole point behind the carvings on the cradle was to show how River knows the Doctor's name. How she learned to read Gallifreyan is a separate mystery.

No, Amy was trying to read the Gallifreyan on the outside because she hadn't noticed that the prayer leaf had ended up inside the cot - and that that was what River and the Doctor were reading.
